You can consider it a refattening agent. The glucoside in the blend can be used for a few purposes as mentioned in the description, which can include solubilizing the glyceryl oleate, replacing a part of other surfactants, etc.
For the 1.7% in 5% usage rate, it would mean that the glucoside is about 34% in the blend. If we go by the rough ASM that some coco glucosides might have, about 55%, then the ASM might be 18.7%. You can see if you have access to the SDS or other materials to confirm if the info is correct.

It can also depend on the co-stability ingredients like polymers / gelling agents, etc.
If you are using a self bodying / thickening emulsifier blend, it depends on how much viscosity you need and if it’s able to stabilize the formula.

What is the process you used to make this, what is the batch size and the tools used?

Depends on your budget, you can get the Misceo one.

Maybe you can go with the most traditional, Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG 100 Stearate. Not sure how well it will do as I’ve not tested making a conditioner with that yet.

Depends on the reason.

MemberFebruary 6, 2024 at 2:57 am in reply to: Why is Avene Tolerance Hydra-10 Cream so effective?Since the ingredients list is relatively simple, the replication shouldn’t be that hard if you get to test out the product and have sufficient experience with each ingredient / blend to make an educated guess.
You can make a preserved version if required. The biomimetic probably refers to the function that the emulsifier blend has, mainly the “biomimic the lipid bilayer of cellular membrane” from a blend like Montanov 68 (INCI: CETEARYL ALCOHOL (and) CETEARYL GLUCOSIDE) https://www.seppic.com/en/montanov-68mb

As graillotion mentioned, i’d also recommend starting with 2%. It’s best to have it in a leave on formula. Not much point in rinsing it off and wasting money.
Remember to patch test. I found out i was allergic to that.

reduce the glycerin slightly and try another polymer

MemberDecember 27, 2023 at 6:49 pm in reply to: How about creating the perfect gel cleanser together? It can depend on a few factors and your requirements, the combination doesn’t need to be too difficult.
For example:
- Genagen 3sb blend + thickener + Cetiol 767 (optional)
- sodium cocoyl glutamate + cocamidopropyl betaine + thickener
- Plantapon SF + thickener (depending on viscosity requirements)
For my cleanser, it’s a mix of Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate & Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate in a foam bottle. I didn’t make it into a gel. ASM around 5%.

Maybe it’s me, but i think the first part should remain the same and keep the last part as the varying factor.

Will you conduct a survey or poll for each functional category?

MemberDecember 4, 2023 at 7:08 pm in reply to: Emulsifying Lipids in Water Serum: Need Expert InsightsMaybe you can use a solubilizer with a suitable polymer like sepimax zen if the percentage is low. If not just use a normal emulsifier if it’s really 5%.

I think a more affordable source would be on the site here, you can take a look at Perry’s courses or info available. https://chemistscorner.com/products/
You can also get some ideas for beginner workshops from IPCS’s workshop or course work
https://personalcarescience.com.au/CosmeticScience/BeginnersCosmeticScienceWorkshops-469/
IPCS provides an ingredient pack for their students, so can you work with the repackers to get a suitable ingredients pack for your workshop as well.

1.7% of 5% is 34%. 55% of 34 is 18.7%.

You can consider substituting some of the olivem 1000 with another emulsifier. You can make a test with montanov 68 or those that graillotion mentioned to see which blend and at what percentage you prefer.

Depending on the attachment you choose, there shouldn’t be any issues if you make less than 500g if the vessel you use is tall and narrow enough to reduce the amount of air introduced.
I do also make 50g and above batches of moisturizers & gelled formulas with the homogenizer attachment in beakers or different glassware.

MemberJanuary 2, 2024 at 3:36 am in reply to: Beta Glucan 1,3-D ………… and 1,4 vs 1,6 …..and purported skincare bene’sI do have symglucan, but i’ve only tested it at a lower percentage because it has glycerin, but it should feel that significant if you find a version that is either the powder form or uses other preservation systems like butylene glycol. I’ve not tested with the 2 versions yet since it’s not really my priority but I think the film formed should be that obvious if the percentage is not that high.
For example, for symglucan, it’s a 1% oat beta glucan solution, the use rate is up to 10%, so it’s only 0.1% active. In terms of performance wise, I think it’s slightly hard to observe because of the glycerin.

MemberDecember 10, 2023 at 11:49 pm in reply to: USA best selling basic body lotion and basic face cream…. ?I think it should be ok. As long as you have a voting system that can do a step by step voting if not all the manual compiling can be slightly tedious depending on how long the list of ingredients are. Maybe you can use a google or microsoft form / sheet.
