  • USA best selling basic body lotion and basic face cream…. ?

Before you answer….let me say where I am going with this… I work with a beginner cosmetic forum, and “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. As part of our learning I would like to create an interactive formula, where I take maybe 10 of them….and they get to vote on all the pieces of the formula. I will process their ideas for either a body lotion or a basic face cream.

Then…here is where my question comes in…. I will package the group formula into a bottle/jar, and also put the corresponding commercial product into the same type of packaging….and send it off to an esteemed panel of judges, labeled ‘A’ or ‘B’ (some of you might be reading this, might be a judge, and not even know it yet…idea is not fully developed)….to evaluate blind. The results will be either….the formula has a long way to go to compete competitively….or…wow, we can formulate competitively. I think either outcome is positive.

So, I am looking for one product each…widely available on store shelves (and possibly available as unscented, so as not to create bias), body lotion, and basic moisturizing face cream. Something with a not too long inci…without too many fake claim ingredients. A low cost… BEST SELLER would be ideal.

Aloha, and thank you for your input.

I think Cerave Moisturizing Cream has to be on that list. Classic.

You can get these results from Amazon sales searches. That will at least give you a workable metric. Good Luck with the Beginner groups, they will frustrate you to no end.

      Hah…never thought of that…. 😉

But OMG…I would have never guessed this result…. #2…Yes…but number 1????? (Used ‘Body Lotion’ for search criteria.)

I notice this is just sales from the last month…..so maybe #1…has an incredible Black Friday special?

      Thank You.

Hehehe….I’ll report back in a month….how ‘herding cats’ goes. 😉🐈 I’ll select 10 of them….break the formula into pieces…..and let them select the ingredients I have from each category….like barrier, emulsifier, water gelling agent, emollients, lipids, preservatives (with supervision) chelates, and one claim ingredient. Fortunately….I have hundreds….hehehe.

You’ve already had to explain yourself multiple times…I’ll just watch from the sideline 😌

P&G Olay sales are $3+ billions. Extrapolating from Amazon sales may not be valid.

Yeah, most people in the US are buying lotions from Olay, Suave, Neutrogena, etc. Online sales is a big piece but in-store sales still represent a much greater piece of sales.

Will this be similar to the “For me by me” concept from Axis-y? But would be “from us for you” instead? 😀

    https://www.axis-y.com/pages/ayme

Will you conduct a survey or poll for each functional category?

@jemolian I had not seen that site before…but maybe I’ll check it out….since I am making up the contest…as I go.

The formula will be broken into segments similar to this:

      humectants

      emulsifiers

      natural lipids

      emollients

      claim ingredients

      water gelling agents….etc…etc…

Their choices will be limited to ingredients I have on hand (a VAST array) , and the entire group will get to comment for 24 hours on each segment….but only 10 members will actually get to vote. The group gets to try and influence the panel…with their arguments for ingredient selection. Once they have completed all segments…..I will make the formula….and send it off to a celebrity (cosmetic) panel for judging. Wish me luck. 🤣

I think it should be ok. As long as you have a voting system that can do a step by step voting if not all the manual compiling can be slightly tedious depending on how long the list of ingredients are. Maybe you can use a google or microsoft form / sheet.
