  Beta Glucan 1,3-D ………… and 1,4 vs 1,6 …..and purported skincare bene’s

  I realize these two forms are based off the feedstock…and also determine if they are water soluble vs water dispersible.

  My question would be….does one form vs the other have better/more/some better benefits that the other? Naturally I would assume if there was a benefit to be had…. it would more likely be forthcoming from a water-soluble format….vs a water dispersible format. Hence why BG from oats… has been more popular than that from yeast or mushrooms? (But open to being ignorant.)

  Would love to read some articles… if there are any technical/professional papers comparing the two.

  Let me toss part of this topic to Dr Geis….or others…. Over the years, Dr Geis has instilled in me the fear of God….and so I have avoided anything with oat solids. Beta Glucans have always intrigued me though. (Granted this fear has kept me from studying it extensively….as can be concluded by my above, simple question). Do they bring with them….the bug food potential of say….colloidal oats? I would have to assume less…. just wondering how much less….if any? Asked another way….what it the big draw (portion) of the oat….that bugs want to feast on?

    Thank you for the files.

    Have you used BG’s? The word ‘film former’ always puts a little trepidation into my heart, as I want moisturizers that feel like they are not there. When you add BG….does it add any feel to the product….good, bad or otherwise?

    Did you notice any enhanced moisturization compared with the base vehicle?

      I do have symglucan, but i’ve only tested it at a lower percentage because it has glycerin, but it should feel that significant if you find a version that is either the powder form or uses other preservation systems like butylene glycol. I’ve not tested with the 2 versions yet since it’s not really my priority but I think the film formed should be that obvious if the percentage is not that high.

      For example, for symglucan, it’s a 1% oat beta glucan solution, the use rate is up to 10%, so it’s only 0.1% active. In terms of performance wise, I think it’s slightly hard to observe because of the glycerin.
