MemberJune 4, 2021 at 6:39 am in reply to: Which silicones are better at de-tacking Aristoflex AVC?@raiyana, I guess if you find aristoflex sticky, you wouldn’t like majority of polymeric emulsifiers. Regarding C10-30, there are many materials under that INCI. I like prmulen EZ4U and Ultrez21, but they are different.

Makingcosmetics are the worst when it comes to proper trade names! Don’t use them if you are going to scale up or it’s a formula for a client. I figured some of what they sell (like GelMaker PH is Sepimax Zen, GelMaker EMU is Simulgel EG, Triglycerides Blend is very likely Softisan 378, etc) but what are you going to do with products like GelMaker Powder? By INCI it could be Ultrez 20, Ultrez 21, Pemulen EZ4U or something else.

They use Laureth-23 in the patent. I didn’t have it and Ceteareth-20 works fine anyway. You would need too much polysorbate 20 to solubilise 1% of tocopherol.
-
Yes, it typically includes C8 - caprylic, C10 - capric and C12 -Lauric. Although I saw only C8 and C10 blends.

Hi, I suggest that you keep it like in L’Oreal’s patent (which is ok as long as you are not selling it)
https://patents.google.com/patent/US7179841B2/enIt translates into this:
INCI % Aqua 34.00% Ethoxydiglycol 30.00% Propylene
glycol10.00% Glycerin 5.00% Ferulic Acid 0.50% LAA 15.00% Tocopherol 1.00% Ceteareth-20 4.00% Hyaluronic
acid HMW0.20% TEA qs It still oxidizes with time, but slower than other options. You don’t need a preservative with this one.

There’s also Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax aka cera bellina. It creates translucent gels (not transparent!). From my experiments, the only ingredient that creates fully transparent products is sucragel. But it’s a huge pain to work with it.

I tried polyamide 3 recently which high polarity oil. It created thick gel just at 5%! It is slightly cloudy but I really like this ingredient. Polyamide 8 supposed to be working for low polarity oils but the final rheology is much lower and my experiment started separating in less than a month. I probably did something wrong but anyway, polyamide 3 seems to be more forgiving.

Beeswax. As natural as it gets. If must be ‘vegan’ as well then candelilla wax. Going to be cloudy though.

Regarding (4), many people actually think that all lipbalms are addictive. Like if you start using it you can’t stop. I think the reason is that they just get ‘addicted’ to a new normal - not having dry and cracked lips.

It has never came to my mind to use phenonip in shampoo. Probably because most of surfactant products I make are cold process. No one stops me from heating it though. I will try this!

Sepimat B as we discussed in another thread, plus check refractive index of your oils. If it’s too high you might want to change them.

MemberMay 5, 2021 at 10:14 pm in reply to: can anyone help me figure out why my body wash feels so drying and doesn’t foam nicely?I am quite familiar with these surfactants. Sorry, don’t expect it to foam well. You can make it very mild and feeling nice though. There’s plenty of good advise above already, I would just add that it wouldn’t hurt to add some cationic polymer like poliquaternium 7, polyquaternium 10, cationic guar etc. Be careful with cationic silicones, they migh impact viscosity.

By the way, the secret is mixing very light emollient with very thick one. they did D5 with softisan, but similar effect can be achieved by mixing CCT or octyldodecanol (very light ester) with petrolatum. Or, D5 with petrolatum (probably better because of more compatible polarities.
