I imagine as it is killing living organism and there’s a lot of “excess” of preservative, it can potentially interfere with your skin microbiome? [Leave on product]
Most references warn against over-preservation in regards to developing resistance to our available preservatives—that simple.

I’ve created several. If you look at some prototypes in the market, I think you will see that the majority avoid “mineral” sunscreens (ZnO, TiO2) and use a “chemical” sunscreen OR a combination of both.

In my experience, unless they are using a technical determination to qualify the water such as deionized or distilled, it is straight-up marketing bunk.

We use a Siemens System. They do all the testing and maintenance. We keep their test results on file.

You can not control the cooling process in that regard. From experience, fix the issue in R&D/manufacturing and remember “more Cocoa Butter!” is not always best. There are NUMEROUS old posts regarding the issue.

We looked at multiple software packages as well. I agree 100% with Formulator in that you have to add multiple modules. Others have different issues. We work with multiple (>30) contract manufacturers with differing systems as there is no one Industry leader. In the end, we settled on Excel as well. We have even found ways to import our excel data into the other systems as well. Simply there is no appeal to purchase.

And do you always use desiccants? We get samples for each and every project specifically and maintain very little stock. With our relationships with the Distributors, we can get samples generally in 99% of the cases within 7 to 10 days max.

On an unrelated note, SCI is starting to become scarce. One of my clients has been working hard to get stock and has been told to expect additional shortages.

Preservatives are a HUGE area of study and you need to read up on them. There is no magic bullet, they are Formula dependent, and multiple factors come into play.Leucidal products are infamous for preservative failures.I would recommend reading something perhaps from David Steinberg and other authors vice web citations. David did a great presentation to SCC as an overview on preservation and the pdf can still be downloaded.

And FTIR alone is no proof, just an indication. It’s a poorly made publication, too.I agree 100%. I am imagining someone misinterpreted the findings of this study for marketing. We have seen this so many times in the past.No intended offense to any Esthetician, but I have been asked to speak at Cosmetology Schools before (never again), and the misconceptions in these Forums were remarkable. -

MemberOctober 30, 2022 at 1:46 pm in reply to: Car Dashboard and interior polish formulationLikely you aren’t getting an answer since it isn’t a Cosmetic. Some consultants do cleansers as well, but it is uncommon.I would check some databases for Personal Cleaners. Also, you may want to check in with some of the larger wax suppliers such as Koster Keunen or Strahl & Pitsch. I know they have starting Formulations for similar products. -

MemberOctober 18, 2022 at 8:42 pm in reply to: mixing magnesium Hydroxide and bicarb of sodaMy point is simply that you MUST learn the Fundamentals. It is at its root a site for Chemistry, a real Science. This is not dissimilar to many other vocations and even avocations. Even with good directions, without the right materials, experience and instruction, I still couldn’t make a quality mousse. In my point of view at least, this site shouldn’t be a “Cosmetic Chemistry” google site where you get an answer upon demand. It is best used as a source for research and direction for your further study. Anecdotally I will tell you as a Chemist I am far more likely to answer a question with “what has your research shown already” than a simple answer. This is just the mentoring style I was exposed to and even thrived in. -

I have a private label base and I was wondering if adding menthol/camphor would cause stability issues. It certainly could. You would probably want to include the INCI for your base.

Also, if you look at the EPA Safer Choice Program, it really isn’t a predominant standard in Personal Care. I generally only have to vet raw materials under this list when I do Vet Care Products.

There are several papers one can find describe a contact allergy to Castor oil. With the most minimal effort here is just one; https://www.mdpi.com/2079-9284/4/1/5/htm
