It’s in almost every other kind of cheap cleaning products that isn’t for personal grooming.
From science sources (as sketchy or polarized as they may be), it isn’t more irritating than alkyl sulfate, or even a bit less.
Also alkyl/alkamido amine oxides are in the same situation? - widely used in cheap detergent/dishwash, but rarely in personal care.
    Curious why?

Alkyl benzene is a harsh material and for this reason it is not used in personal care products. SLS is not so harsh as fear marketer’s and some companies propagate against it .
SLS is widely used in toothpastes, shampoos, shower gels , hand washes etc.
pH of sulphonic acids is very low,  1.2 to 2.5 . So it is difficult to formulate skin friendly products with it .

@Paprik this has to be a salt free formulation.  Otherwise I know salt is my best friend.

    You can try HPMC .

Quality of Sulphonic acid may lead to an unstable product and result in discolouration which I suffered.

For large batch you can heat only 20x water than HPMC and mix. For example if you use %0.3 HPMC, mix with %6 of heated water and then add to cold water if your system is cold process and you want to save money and time by not heating %1/3 of water phase

I am new to use HPMC. I want to know what is the effect of other thickners like NaCl, CAPB, CDEA ,GDS, etc when thicken with HPMC . How much I can reduce them ? Please share your experience.

Use more glutamate instead of Glucoside

    Xanthan gum hydrates instantly .

Are you sure Xanthan Gum hydrates instantly in water 🤔?
I don’t know , why I have to first mix Xanthan Gum with Glycerin,  wasting an extra step.

Yes, reduce the Decyl Glucoside to the 2%-3% range.  I would recommend ditching the Xanthan Gum altogether and try thickening this with NaCl.

If you do retain the Xanthan Gum, you can substantially reduce the amount of Glycerin to 2.5%.

Actually, I might recommend you use a combination of NaCl and Polyquaternium-10 to thicken this concoction.

What is “Lexgard 1%” … there is a whole series of Lexgard products.

Lexgard natural. Thanks, will give it a whirl. Presume if I try the polyquat 10 I can’t use xanthan gum as  it’s cationic and anionic.

Why you are not trying HPMC instead of XG as HPMC can give better rheology.

@Aziz it was supposed to be Glyceryl stearate which is w/o. So what does this o/w mean here?
Is this the se (self emulsifying) version?

The name of the self emulsifying version is , Glyceryl Stearate SE .
Why it is mentioned here o/w ?

I think a little bit different from this opinion. To me
The man behind the formulation will decide the product quality.  It depends on his experience, study, innovative idea, his will to present good things.
If he has sound knowledge about microbiology and contamination, dermatology and skin physiology,
chemistry and chemical products and above all his experience and expertise skill will decide the product quality.
Not big or small company but ,
the man behind the formulation will decide that a product is the worst or the best.

  • Dear All,
Please kindly tell  me what are the most suitable surfactants can be used instead of Alkaline sulphonic acid (LABSA) for dishwashing liquid with SLES.
    01) Tergitol ( Np10)
    02) Lauramine oxide
    03) Decyl glucoside or if there is any surfactant with high detergency and Non- toxic please advice.

1st of all you have to understand  LABSA does not mean alkaline sulphonic acid, It means linear alkyl benzene sulphonic acid and it is not alkaline it is acidic . Its pH is 2 to 3 .

Eye serum ! What is it 🤔.  Is it for applications on eyes ? Or is it an eye related product ?
Are you maintaining the acceptable range of CFU for an eye related product.

Limit your total surfactant active amount to 15% . Reduce SLES (70 %) to 12 to 15% , , SLS 1 to 3% , CAPB active 3% . Do a lot of experiments and finalise your formula.

SLES may leave residues on surfaces. Glucosides are usually better.

Anyhow, you’ll just need to conduct some residue-on-drying tests for different surfactants and concentrations.
These tests are easy and (at least somewhat) fun. You’ll learn a lot from them.

    What about butyl carbitol ?

it turns your skin white (temporarily), and stings/numbs the area of application - not good qualities for a hand sanitiser
also, in Europe at least, hydrogen peroxide is restricted to specific types of product, and hand sanitisers are not one of those types

So instead of H₂O₂ what should be used to neutralized  spores or should a lower percent of H₂O₂  , like 1%  should be used ?

Yikes ! 8% propylene glycol, I use a combination of 1% Glycerine and 0.4% Propylene glycol. Excellent results (using 0.30 % Carbomer)

1.5 % Propylene Glycol gave bad results in terms of hand feel

Which Carboner you use and what is your final formula and procedures?

Is that “micellar water” meant to be rinsed off?

If its is, then Panthenol and Glycerin can be removed (or reduced to claim ingredient levels 0.1-0.01%) as they’ll do nothing useful and just end up in the drain.
It it’s not then be careful as glucosides can leave a sticky afterfeel (they even leave a sticky feel in rinse off applications).

Miceller water is.not a rines off water .  It is a leave on water , It is used to remove oily make up from face without rines off , so Panthenol or any other moisturiseres may be usued for soothing effect .
@Perry In miceller water , some oil or fragrance dissolved in excess amount of a solubuliser agent like polysorbat 20 etc. This excess amount of solubuliser remove oil based make up from face .

What are the side effects of sodium chloride salt used in Shampoo?
Is it dry to hair if used in Shampoo?
If we can used CAPB and ja guar for Shampoo viscosity then is it necessary to use sodium chloride salt in Shampoo?

In CAPB there is nearly 7% NaCl present . This salt of CAPB helps to increase viscosity in shampoo or other surfactants .
