I have seen some dishwash formulations where ethyl alcohol is the sole preservative (and it helps cut grease a bit).

There’s a study that suggests that 2% peppermint oil helps with baldness.
    Google it.

1 alcohol ethoxylate ain’t needed in laundry detergent IMO

it foams too much and doesn’t clean well.

IMO Sodium linearalkylbenzene sulfonate works fine on its own. You can add some SLES for better foaming, but it’s better suite for hand prespotters.
Remember, you don’t want too much foam in laundry detergents.

2 if Sodium polyacrylate is meant for thickening, then it’s not needed
you can get enough thickness out of 15% LABSA + NaOH
you can further thicken it with some salt.

Probably just about lecithin is truly natural
Everything else is man made, even if they start with ingredients found in nature.

there speaks someone who has never worked with it in large quantities, or has been in the same building as a two-ton batch of perm in the process of being mixed

Is free thioglycolic acid any more effective at relaxing hair than the thioglycolate salts?

At least get an insulin syringe to measure <1 ml amounts.

The interesting thing is that benzyl alcohol reduced sebum more than isopropyl alcohol, which is a better solvent.
So oils aren’t simply being washed away.

    LABSA is the free acid
you’ll need to neutralize it with Sodium hydroxide to get Sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate.

You can also check to see if you can buy the readymade sulfonate.

I’m pretty sure you can find alcohol ethoxylates in a large city like Delhi
you just need to dig deeper.

For a floor cleaner I believe 8% IPA would be quick drying and  but you need to try it to see if it smells too much
you may wish to substitute some alcohol for a glycol ether.
Alkylbenzene sulfonates at 3-5% will provide superior cleaning to alcohol ethoxylates or polysorbates.

You can find great beginner formulas at

@jamsinekhatri is PS80 used as a fragrance solubilizer?
Otherwise I don’t see why you’ll prefer it to alcohol ethoxylates.

For floor cleaners check your local regulations on  Volatile Organic Carbon, so you can add some alcohol both for quicker drying and to kill some bacteria on floor.

For a floor cleaner you don’t want too much surfactants, as they ain’t properly rinsed away and can leave a residue on drying.

Why don’t you just switch to a natural preservative … there are a variety of options, but not knowing if your product is a cream, lotion, etc. is not possible to offer you any specific options.

Hello dear, its a body lotion, using a cold emulsifier , glycerin extracts, essential oils, sweet almond oil , rose water, xanthan gum and lactic acid.
i learnt this recipe while in italy. Expiry within 2 months, ph 6.5-7

Likely, the cold emulsifier ain’t 100% natural either
so that may get you in trouble, as @Microformulation stated.

The stylist lives across the country, but I am curious enough to purchase it myself to test the pH. I was told the hair was straightened like a relaxer or similar straightening treatment and did not recurl when washed in the salon. Client has coily-type curly hair. The roots were still curly but the rest of the hair where this “moisture mask” (not my brand, they were just curious) was applied went straight. I advised them to have the client wash with a clarifying shampoo and then report back. I’m just so curious now!

And yes, they did say it smelled a little bit like sulfur after the 40 minutes when they rinsed it, but not before they rinsed. I couldn’t find a reason for that in the IL, so I agree it could be an undeclared ingredient.

    Thank you both!

Thioglycolic acid has both sulfur, and a particular smell, although I disagree that it’s a strongly unpleasant odor

Maybe you smell peroxide used to neutralize it?

@Gunther - Correct, coconut alkanes do not readily evaporate like Cyclomethicone so for applications where evaporation is important, they wouldn’t work as a replacement.

Being alkanes, aren’t they too drying to skin?
While we have to read their specs, aren’t volatile alkanes too kerosene-like?
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alkane

Aren’t the heavier coconut alkanes roughly similar to petrolatum?

The List Of Ingredients doesn’t contain any water
so it makes it all dubious
it may well contain an undeclared ingredient.

Can you please check its pH to see if it’s highly alkaline, thus the reason it relaxes hair?
Does it smell like perm? If it does it may contain thioglycolic acid

@jamsinekhatri do you need Polysorbate 80 to emulsify fragance or as a cleaning aid?

Floor cleaners aren’t properly rinsed out like shampoos or shower gels,
so you’ll need to make sure ingredients don’t leave a residue on floor.

Too much PS80 may leave a sticky residue.
To exclude all other variables, you can dissolve PS80 in water, mop some floor with it, and compare it too plain demineralized water.

I don’t think there’s any problem with dimethicone so why substitute it?

You could also sign up to swiftcraftmonkeys blog (https://swiftcraftymonkey.blog/blog/) for a minimum of $1/per month. She has scientific studies to back up the information she provides and lots of formulas from basics through to more advanced products.

    Swiftcraftymonkey is great for beginners
OP can also check the formulas at pilotchemical as they’re simpler and more straightforward.
He needs to check to see what chemicals are available locally.

There’s no real pharmaceutical cannabis in California as previously stated. The FDA still considers cannabis an illegal drug.

For recreational use (inhaled), some testing is required, usually done with expensive chromatography equipment.

    https://cannacallabs.com/regulations

    https://www.analyticalcannabis.com/articles/cannabis-potency-testing-whats-in-your-weed-289026

So you need to ask your weed supplier for these test reports.

I believe that being for a cosmetic use, you can buy weed wholesale from any farm,
send it to a lab for testing, and get a money back guarantee if it doesn’t meet regulations.

Folks, ngaryeva is right in that 1000cst dimethicone works well in hair care, and is more available right now. That is because the most commonly used dimethicones in skin-care are 200cst or 350cst, both being in short supply right now.  If I had to choose only one MW for overall “standard” use, it would be the 350. I’d like other chemists to weigh in on that one someday, it would make for a good discussion here.

What’s your opinion on dimethiconol vs dimethicone?

You’ll need to make lots of tests yourself.

Get some bare black and white tiles
black (or dark colored) to make sure no white residue is left on
white to make sure it doesn’t stain floors (although most floor cleaners have bright colorants, so at least make sure the stain can be easily mop off.

Also, test to make sure no sticky or slippery residues are left.
