Is the yellowing due to oxidation?
I’ve tried DHA in a blend with benzyl alcohol also (Geogard 221) and I particularly disliked the smell. Awful!

I think a lower pH might accelerate niacinamide hydrolysis, I keep it above pH 4 (just like panthenol). I agree that some sources can be contradictive.
I saw that Paula Begoun from Paula’s Choice uses a lot of actives in acidic products like her exfoliating BHA/AHA toners. Tip: read the ingredients lists of these toners, they all have a pH of between 3.2 to 3.8. -
Is the concern about the formation of benzene? @Bill_Toge has explained that in another thread, in order to form benzene there needs to be a catalyst (like iron) present.

In the case of lemon (peel) extract or ethereal lemon oil, I don’t think there is a big difference, if any.

The replacement here is to save costs, not crystallisation issues and I don’t think comfrey extract is cheaper than allantoin. -

Maybe the astringent effect of the witch hazel, although the % is very low, or the Naticide?

In a document from a supplier I have here they recommend 50-100 ppm (0.005 - 0.01%) -
Agree with Belassi, accurate scales that can handle higher weights are expensive.
I’ve got three scales (I make small batches btw):
- 0,001 gram, max weight 50 grams (about 30 dollars);
- 0,01 gram, max weight 200 grams (about 5 dollars);
- 0,1 gram, max weight 1 kilogram (about 5 dollars).
I’ve got these from AliExpress, they can be calibrated and as you can see they’re extremely cheap! The most accurate scale can also be levelled and has ‘airflow protection’ (a housing around the weighing platform to minimize changes due to airflow).Keep the weight of the medium you will tare in mind (e.g. weighing paper or glass beaker etc), so you won’t exceed the max of the scale (to prevent damage to mechanism).
