  • Hi Abdullah, I would not use Tea Tree oil at all and certainly not instead of salicylic acid. I am a formulator from Australia and we grew up with T. tree and all my US and Aussie clients over the last decade have all declined using T. Tree and eucalyptus. I believe Salicylic Acid or other Organic Acids have better efficacy anyway.
Essential Oils are not pure, so do not think that going down the Essential Oil route is better or natural.
Also, if you are trying to go for natural or organic leave out the Sulfur as well. People are far more educated now and they read the ingredients lists. As soon as they see chemicals like sulfur however disguised it is they will put it straight back on the shelf.
Why not try putting Vitamin C (there are many more stable species now), HA, salicylic, lactic, Organic Fruit acids eg. Pineapple, Fig, pomegranate, Nicotinamide, Natural Vitamin A alternative i.e. Bakuchiol, and/or calming agents as wearing masks AKA Maskne skin has resulted in skin redness, rashes, soreness, rough patches, sensitivity. Then I would add things like colloidal oats, allantoin, piroctone olamine etc.
If you want to add scent T. tree is not popular at all. Try cucumber, Bergamot and a cool wood, Buddha wood or even Orange, Sandalwood and Buddha Wood.
That is my 20 cents worth. Good luck.

    Hi there,
You can buy the home microbial test kit at Lotioncrafter Or New Directions to do a check before sending your sample off to the PC2 lab facility.
It will give you an indication of microbial count or cfu’s. The STD deviation will be a lot greater but I guess its ok to see if its a pass or fail!
Enjoy. Let us know how you go??
    Best Catherine

Why dont you use MAP or SAP vitamin C?, DSM (Brennetag) make a great stable Vitamin C called Stay-C 50. You can get that from small suppliers.
Why not use a gelling agent like Seppimax ? or Leci gel? you only need a small amount along with the Hyal acid. You will want to think about whether you want various MW of Hyal acid too. As different MW’s gel better than others!!
The preservatives are fine but I would use more of each.
If you don’t use a gelling agent as I have suggested you may want a cold process emulsifier like Eumulgin 1%.
Work on that and let me know how you go!!! Good luck cheers Catherine

I have read that Thymol can be used as an Anti-Malador as well.

  • Here is one, I made wipes for 2 prostitutes as the lap dancing they did each day often involved sprays of semen in and around the vaginal area so they needed to use a lot of wipes;
and apparently when they pole dance, the genital areas of the dancers make contact with the pole so they needed to wipe after dancing too.
They couldn’t find wipes that were OK to use like 20 times a day, so I made wipes that kept everything in balance ie the flora, pH and were gentle enough to use frequently.
They were really nice girls and I had a great time working with them!!!
Big eye opener for me…I am far less judgemental now!

I do not know if there is a correlation here, last year I was making a childrens toothpaste with more xylitol than I usually use and I started getting mouth ulcers. Then I heard about some other people around the world that used natural toothpaste and a lot of xylitol in their formula!! and also having problems with wobbly teeth and ulcers.
Could this be a co-incidence? Has anyone had any problems whilst using xylitol?
From the very first time I used it I was sternly told that it had to come from the birchwood tree! Why would they say that?? I didn’t really take much notice but now I think about it maybe there is a correlation??
    Thoughts??
  • Are you natural or not?
If natural you want to use Isoamyl Laurate, Silv Oliv, just natural alternatives to silicones and there are a lot.

From a natural stand point, do not use EDTA!!! and you can buy citric acid from the supermarket, it is not expensive and you don’t have to buy a lot!

You can also put the information on a card or pamphlet and have it attached to the product just like the swing tag. You may even be able to just put the pamphlet next to the product and make sure it is in the bag when sold.
    Hope that helps Catherine

    Hey there,
I think you have too much Xylitol?? and what type and where as there are many sources and the quality changes a lot. The birchwood tree is suppose to be the best source.
    Bicarb can be an irritant.
    Hope this helps!! Cheers Catherine

What about ingredients that consumers want in their cosmetics post Covid?
like more preservative, or anti-bacterials etc.

I would just say that the 3 compounds make a very good stable emulsion making O/W skin care! for example.

There are many other anti-acne agents that you can use that are also natural.
You probably need the help of a formulator and make sure of your regulations.
