Thanks Benz3ne, thought as such, good to get clarification.

Ive heard Lexfeel is a good replacement for cyclomethicone and the sorts which gives good slip.

This happened with a balm I made. U may not want to but I minimised the Shea to 0.5-1 percent so I could keep ingredient on label. The problem disappeared. I think it has to do with different butters and waxes having different melting points, although the blooming only popped up over time.

Thanks, I contacted them and compared and everything seems very similar.

Thanks for that info. Makes it easy to understand. Yes 99 percent IPA

In the past I have typically used about 1-2% propylene glycol or propanediol and 2% isopropyl myristate with the gellants, alcohol(s), and water. However, neither Aristoflex AVC nor Zen is as accomodating with isopropyl at 70% volume or weight. The AVC refused to interact with the isopropyl alcohol. The Zen looked like it might work, but it stayed liquidy and then separate i blobs when I left it overnight. It was cloudy and once I poured off most of the isopropyl and added a bit of distilled water just to see what would happen, the Zen did gel or fully hydrate as expected. Lovely mass of mildly alcoholic smelling cloudy gel. Sepigel 305 didn’t work either, it blobbed into rubbery bits.To be fair, I’m only a hobbyist, so I might be doing it wrong.Since I don’t have any Ultrez 10 or 20 or carbopol 940 or high concentration ethanol, and only part of a liter of 91% isopropyl alcohol left, I decided to just buy some small spray bottles and live with liquid sanitizer.
Sorry, do u mean the Seppimax Zen did work or didn’t. Also if it did do u know where to source, everywhere seems sold out.

Am having the same problem. First I tried,
Glycerin 3%
Xanthan Gum 0.4%
Water 26%
Isopropyl Alcohol 70%
It looked good until about 40% of the alcohol was mixed in, then it started going stringy. I have since learnt that to use xanthan it would have to be xanthan CGT, I only have CG.Then I tried
Glycerin 3%
Ultrez 10 0.25%
Water 26.5%
Tried both Triethanol and Suttocide A to neutralise. both failed.
Isopropyl Alcohol 70%
This didn’t work either, just stayed liquid.Have seen a Belinda Carli vid that said Seppimax Zen would work but it seems to be sold out of everywhere I have looked (live in Australia and tried Aussie Soaps and New Directions).

Depends what and how much emulsifier and other solids or butters u got in there I think mate, but I use it at 3 percent in a few products.

However if it is hair clay pomade, not mask i did not think that Rhassoul clay is a good idea
I’ve come up with a product I like. I used 54 percent micro wax and 10 percent Lexfeel to go with coconut oil etc. Question tho, what is wrong with using rhassoul clay in hair? A no no? -

MemberOctober 27, 2019 at 9:34 pm in reply to: Grainy bumps in facial balm … is this fungus??My guess is just graininess due to different melting point of butters and waxes perhaps.
Being all oil I don’t think u need a preservative at all and I’d question why olivem 1000 is in there as it is an emulsifier. I’d swap it with some Cera Bellina as heard it helps with graininess.Must note I’m kinda new to this I just like trying to learn and help with questions do I’m guessing also.
I’ve recently made balms with beeswax, cocoa butter, shea and oils. After a while it went grainy, but i simply eliminated one of the butters (Shea in this case) and it fixed my problem. I think it was just too many different melting points. Haven’t tried it but heard multiple times cera Bellina helps it’s this though.

Probably wrong on both accounts of natural and ph adjusting but tromethamine rings a bell.

MemberOctober 9, 2019 at 12:38 am in reply to: formulating an anti-aging serum..Help! I tried everything!Yeah agree with belassi, I’m not sure if the citric acid is going to like the high electrolytes too much, hence making it runny. If I’m reading it right you are putting your xanthan in after the emulsion. Try mixing the xanthan and the glycerin together and then adding it to your water phase. A bit more emulsifier and pump up the revs on the mixer. Also presume you are putting your emulsifier in with your oil phase.

I believe only the glyceryl stearate is an emulsifier here. The other 3 are thickeners that I’d use at 2-3 percent. I’d probs use another emulsifier and use the glyceryl stearate as a co-emulsifier even. Since I’m pretty sure you’re after natural if you have glycerin and xanthan gum id use that to add stability also.

Emutracks in Adelaide, South Australia. The fat is rendered and oil sold there in small or large amounts. I actually do some work there.

Excellent, thank you both. I asked because I have bought a cheaper gadget from China, my mate had a $400 golf range finder that he got off eBay to measure distance. I then purchased the China version and found it does exactly the same job and you can’t even really tell the difference. Have heard different stories though.
