OH WOW.. I have used microwaves before in my lab but never seen that before.. the best way is to use a water bath. ..get a big pot and try to melt your oil phase- like how you melt your chocolate at home…
I was never ever allowed to heat my batch using microwave… for oil phase- you will not have any water loss but esp for water phase it is not recommended. I think your microwave has less capacity or your beaker is just too weak? I understand how you want to create something at home but try making a small batch first and then scale up. You don’t want to waste your raws.. they are $$

@Belassi yes this is such a great emulsifier- ecocert and no-peg emulsifier suits well for natural brands. didn’t your product come out a thick cream? based on my experience I had to add some silicone in order to reduce soapiness

I believe you can use 0.5- 1 % as a booster but cannot guarantee this will help your efficacy. try adding something else on top of your hexanediol

it’s just how preservatives don’t work on your base. seems like phenoxyethanol isn’t working for your cellulose base. I would not use any preservative blend that contains phenoxyethanol.. have you tried symdiol 68?

I have seen people using caprylyl glycol for lip products. please note that you are making anhydrous lipstick so no preservative is needed.

  • @Zink applechem has non-nano zinc.

@Bkkornaker you have to heat up ( both water and oil phase) to 75-80C for beeswax.. you also need an emulsifier. Hand mixing with small spatula will not help for your water and oil phase combination. Why are you adding sea salt at high percentage?

@zbami if you are not allowed to use EDTA, Sodium phytate ( Dermofeel PA-3) helps too @ 0.1-0.5%. Most of the times we use EDTA below 0.1 %

Just letting you know @dsanderson benzyl alcohol tends to break emulsion and has strong odor I would not recommend using this for emulsion batches. I would recommend below ( no parabens):
    symdiol 68
    mikrokill cos
    jeecide cap-5 1 % works really well
    euxyl pe 9010
make sure to put some potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate for east and mold ( check ph)
plantservative wsr ( all plant based)

I think using chemical sunscreen will be better for a lip product. try PARSOL MCX and 1789 below 5 % and you get like SPF 15 to 20..

@lkatic what type of Zinc are you using? You can use straight zinc powder- add in water phase
if you use coated zinc from BASF, mostly you have to put in oil phase. I would suggest you should add spf booster ingredients and emollients since zinc can be draggy and does have that feel people might not like.

  • I thought highest you can go with SA is 2 %?
How are you going to solubilize SA?
Doesn’t matter what base you use. make sure you don’t form any crystals for SA

I think it’s really about how you like to present yourself. I agree with @Belassi still tattoos are negatively stereotyped in America… but just cover yourself and don’t show how many tattoos you have especially at workplace.
