It does not make sense, maybe it is soap ( hydrogenated fat with NAOH),  usually a syndet bar contains around 15% soap like a Dove bar.

In ingredients list it doesn’t have NAOH.

    pH is also 5-6.5

Doea 15% soap at pH ≤7 make any sense?

    1. Some complications with formaldehyde or CMI MI preservative.
    2. I thought you are talking about shampoo. I don’t know much about perfume.
    3. It doesn’t feel good on hair.

If you want it to be water thin, don’t use fatty alcohol and coconut oil at all.

    Have you used this product?

Did it work better as a leave in or rinse of conditioner?

What is your batch size that you make and what is your high shear mixer?

The problem is you are not dissolving that 1% guar gum solution properly. Don’t make 1% first.

The batch that has separated, heat it to 40°c and mix it with high shear mixer. The problem will be solved.

@Abdullah I have in hand dimethicone 350 isn’t good for soaping?

It is better than ingredients other than dimethicone but not even close to 5cst dimethicone.

    Use dimethicone 5cst for soaping.

September 15, 2022 at 6:15 pm in reply to: What has been your most challenging formulation problem?

My most challenging formula was when i wanted to make a shampoo that is better than all competitors in my market. I thought the first step should be to stay away from sulfates so i started sulfate free. I tried using surfactants that on internet they were the most popular as mildest or best foam or best cleaning. I spent more than a year or even two to make such product. The problem was when i gave it and a simple with 7% SLES+ 3% CAPB to anyone for a blind test and then asked them which one did they like for not drying the skin or scalp or better cleaning or foam and they always choosed the sulfate one. And i was like what?????
How is sulfate milder than the mildest surfactants from internet or benchmarks on internet?
How is sulfate cleaning better than surfactant that is theoretically claimed to have stronger cleansing power than sulfate?
How does sulfate foam better than those surfactants that are claimed to have better or at least the same foam as sulfates?
How no body likes sulfate free over sulfate when on internet everyone says i want sulfate free?

And the problem was solved when i decided to use some sulfates in any type of cleansing product no matter what or for who it is.

@Abdullah I found a lot of commercial shampoo a Johnson, Souplesse wich have main ingrédient CAPB then glucoside may be you got your result because the level of use of ingredients
@ketchito I tried your suggestion it is just perfect good transperancy, acceptable viscosity… So it is really very precious input thanks a lot.
     Thanks @Perry @Paprik  @”DRBOB@VERDIENT.BIZ”   for your comments.

You can test it yourself. Less than 1% glucoside has no problem with HPMC but higher amount does. As it was from long ago I don’t remember from what amount of APG the problem started.

You can thicken water will HPMC, then add APG to it and see with how much APG it loses it viscosity.

@Paprik - we just removed the HPMC. It turns out no one could tell a difference and salt worked fine as a thickener

we added it right in the beginning, right after the water and dye and before the surfactants

Can i ask how much HPMC were you using that no one could notice the difference in foaming?

Yeah, we used HPMC in our shampoo until we removed it in a cost savings measure.  HEC was in our conditioner formula. (VO5)

Can i ask why you were not using HPMC in conditioner when it costs less than HEC and provides much higher viscosity?

@Paprik let me tell you a trick.
Some HPMC thicken instantly when mixed with cold water and some takes a few hours later. Use the version that thickens after a few hours, add it after everything else and before NACL or you can add some of it to NACL solution too( if you are worried about swelling all available water, although it doesn’t matter in my opinion). Final viscosity will be very low but enough to prevent HPMC from precipitation. You can fill bottles very easily  and my even wash the tank very easily because of very low viscosity and product will thicken after a few hours inside the bottles.

SCI  or iselux or sulfosuccinate would be my suggestions. What is cost you less.

Because when i wanted to make sulfate free shampoo, i also did  start with CAPB and APG. So have some experience in it.

On its own, viscosity of decyl glucoside is like glycerin and viscosity of lauryl glucoside is like shea butter.
