I need some help with a project. I am not a chemist, but I have been attempting to develop a quick dissolving soap tablet. My path so far has been to combine a surfactant with citric acid/baking soda. Unfortunately, the surfactant creates a film that prevents water from reaching the acid/baking soda and the tablet does not dissolve. I am more than willing to forgo effervescence to achieve a rapidly dissolving product.

    Any thoughts?

    What surfactant are you using?

Perhaps using a powdered surfactant with a small amount of binder would work. Try looking up formulations for foaming bath bombs.

I use same combo of acid/bicarbonate with some starch as binder and a powdered surfactant, it dissolves in a jiffy. Even effervescence is noticeable, though I wouldn’t say it is of the highest quality.

I have been using coladet-eq. I have not been using a binder - will research foaming bath bombs. Thanks…
