I noticed today that my local Walmart is stocking chia oil. It’s a bit pricey of course; about $47 per kg. However, it’s a very rich source of omega 3 - around 60% according to the label. Looking around on the Web I noticed this and its claims. Is there any evidence that omega 3 really works? One of the comments mentioned that the “old” version of the product smelt more “mariney” and I must say that I would be sparing with chia oil if you incorporate it into a dish for that very reason… anyway I bought a 250mL bottle. Maybe I will try it instead of mamey oil in that recipe I developed. Has anyone tried omega 3 in a skin care item?

Yes, Omega 3/6 imbalance is a major cause of systemic inflammation.  Most people get, in their diet, approximately 10X more Omega 6 relative to Omega 3, than is optimal, especially in “Western” diets.  The imbalance can manifest itself as a contributing factor to many skin conditions.

Flaxseed oil is rich in Omega 3 and it is a cheaper alternative.

Just today I got a call from a company wanted me to make a supplement product with Chia oil and some other additives.  Never heard of it before.

Sounds good. Obvious market segment is for those wanting to supplement with omega 3 but not animal sourced.
