Cyclopentasiloxane for vinyl

A member of a Facebook group that I admin, is a professional restorer of music. He mentioned that the problem nobody else ever addresses with their cleaning systems for vinyl discs, is silicone artifacts that originally come from the pressing plant, and other contamination that bonds with the surface of the plastic and can’t be removed. He went into some detail about using a silicone fluid to remove the unremovable.So, I decided to try it. I have several silicones including water dispersible, but I thought that cyclopentasiloxane (fluid 1585) would be a good bet because it is so fiendishly thin and evaporates into the air leaving no residue.Well, after cleaning the traditional way and listening to the inter-track background, then using microfiber cloth and cyclo, there was a noticeable difference in the noise level and overall the quality of the LP went up one grade. The only snag was that the first time I played it after cleaning I had to lift and clean the stylus after each track because it was cleaning gunk out of the grooves. -
