    What’s the problem with Ceteareth-25?

  • @Bill_Toge Yes, I use a dye but I didn’t write the percentage in the formula because the amount that I use is too small to be determined by weight

    ok, if maybe the problem is the loss of water through evaporation, how could this be solved? increasing the percentage of humectants?

    but in the other formula i use a mixture of polysorbates, don’t use PEG 40 HCO and i use beeswax

    No, I only use c-25 as a gelling agent
    I think you could use polysorbate 20 maybe or peg40 to help emulsify these ceteareth

    why do you use both?

    heat the c-25 in a pot at 80°C and in another pot the rest of the materials at same temperature, after,  add c-25 in the other pot slowly

    @Lainee @Bill_Toge
    yes, i use PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil or PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate and anyway I should heat the ceteareth apart

    My main question is whether these vapors emitted by the C-25 represent any health risk or are toxic

    @Belassi @Lainee

    Yeah

    I know and it is a bad idea use the direct flame heating since there is no total temperature control and there may be a combustion, so I have stopped everything until I buy a heating plate
    But I would like to know if the vapors emitted by the Ceteareth -25 pose a health risk

    @bobzchemist Thanks so much

    About the preservative, I am using benzyl alcohol (0.5%) and would like to know if at a temperature of 70 ° C this would lose antimicrobial activity.
    According to the handbook of pharmaceutical excipients, the boiling point of this is 204 ° C and its flash point is above 100 ° C so I think this should not lose any of this in the product
    If it is correct what I think, then there would be no problem in adding everything to 70 ° C (Temperature in which packaging is easy) taking into account your advice on an extra fragrance, Right?

    Hello everyone
    I wanna commented that I have been able to improve  the “wash” in the fomulation and that apparently doesn’t matter that amount pvp wich that attempt to add, the fixation is maintained medium to soft, therefore a combination with other fixing polymers must be able to increase the Fixing of the Product, now a new trouble has appeared to me.
    The fragrance next to the preservative should be added at a temperature of approximately 50 ° C but at that temperature and the sample is too gelled so it is very difficult to pack and much of it is lost (it remains stuck in the beaker)
    I think the solution could be to cut ceteareth -25 down to 5-10%
    I would like to know your opinion about this “possible” solution
    Have a nice day

    hey @somdatt
    What ingredient in your formulation is responsible for fixing to the hair?

    Could you help me with the questions I ask? Thanks so much

    @Chemist77 @DRBOB@VERDIENT.BIZ  @Bill_Toge  @MarkBroussard  @belassi @em88

    Hi everyone, it’s me again

    I have been testing my product with myself and some of my friends
    They tell me that apparently the fixation of the pomade is a little bad and that after washing still leaves the feeling that it is in the hair. With the above I have some questions
    Is it better to use pvp k 30 or k 90? What is the maximum allowed level of pvp in a formulation like this? What could change in the formulation to make the washing a little easier?
    Thanks so much

    @Belassi
     Well, I understand that the phenomenon of cremation happens because the oil particles are less dense than the surrounding environment (Water), so they tend to escape the environment and reach the surface of the mixture, and that this Can be solved by increasing the viscosity of the emulsion

    The emulsifying wax nf is a mixture of polysorbate 60 and cetostearyl alcohol. The function of the polysorbate 60 is to be an emulsifier and the cetostearyl is an emulsifier and is an agent which increases the viscosity of the mixture (information of “handbook of pharmaceutical excipients”)
    Then I would only be replacing the function of emulsifier but not viscosity, apparently
    What could replace the emulsifying wax nf? (In my country it is difficult to get it)

    Now the original formulation isn’t such a bad idead considering that the ingredients in a commercial product like that are:

    Aloe Barbadensis Juice, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Emulsifying Wax NF, Carnauba (Copernicia cerifera) Wax, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Citrus sinensis (Blood Orange) Oil, Fragrance, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E Oil), Phenoxyethanol (and) Caprylyl Glycol

    Why the substitution is not adequate? @Belassi

    @Belassi
    According to what I understood in that publication, According to what I understood in that publication, the Ewax is the abbreviation that the author gave it in that “formulation” to emulsifying wax nf

    I replace the emulsifying wax with polysorbate 80 when comparing its hlb value

    Thank you all for your advice
    I did what he recommended and the appearance has improved a lot, apparently it is also normal to dry the surface of the product outside the container for a long time, but it isn’t a stability problem

    jaja No problem @MarkBroussard But if I wanted to know that in case it is lost from moisture, how could I avoid it?

    well, apart from having the container closed

    Exactly @Bill_Toge , it only happens when I leave some of the sample outdoors

    But, is there any way to reduce this?

    @Belassi Do you consider that the color change (translucent to opaque) is something “normal” in this formulation?
