There could be any number of reasons.

    Maybe because it’s too basic

or maybe because we only use math periodically.

or maybe because our calculators Argon

What information are you trying to find that you don’t have? Your question is too vague to give a good answer.

Here is the safety information about SMLI - https://www.dropbox.com/s/5irtrckvue5w90p/SMLI-safety.pdf?dl=0

Keratin protein and Panthenol are water soluble and will simply be washed away during shampooing. They will not have any significant effect on your hair.  They are claims ingredients put into formulas for a good story. They don’t actually do anything (from a shampoo especially).

@Soexcited - the fact that no one has done that yet suggests that it is not worthwhile enough from a business standpoint to incur the expense of getting on the monograph.

To get a useful answer you should provide more information including…

    1.  What oils are in your formula?  It matters for recommending an emulsifier.

    2.  What do you consider “reasonably natural”?  There is no such thing as a suitable emulsifier that is made out in nature. But there are things that are derived from plants.

Centrifuge is not an important part of stability testing. It might be useful for developing prototypes but the company I worked for never used centrifuges for stability testing.

The whole point of shampoos is to remove oil. Adding oil to a shampoo formula is not generally a good idea.

Well, the product isn’t really legal for selling in the US but the way our regulatory system works, you don’t need prior approval by the FDA to put something on the market. As long as the brand stays small enough it might take some time for the FDA or perhaps lawyers in California to find them and take action.  A label like this is a clear indication that the product was created by an amateur .

Then you have too much Ceteareth. Use less and find another thickening agent like Carbomer.

    Two books are worth getting.

    1.  Coloring the cosmetic world
    2.  Color Cosmetics - A practical guide

If you can get them, those are the best for formulating.

@Jdawgswife76 - The main reason you aren’t getting many helpful responses is because you haven’t asked specific enough questions.  You said “(I) would like some input on the surfactant usage…” - this is too vague for me to address. What input would you like? What do you want to know? The best I’ve got is yes, use surfactants for face wash. 9% may work or it may be too much. Only you can decide if it’s too much. Is it too drying when you try it? This may or may not be helpful for you so I have no idea if that’s what you want to know.

    You also asked “
Can anyone provide any opinion or helpful information please?” - Again, this isn’t a specific enough question to get a helpful answer.

This forum is most useful for getting specific questions answered.

But also, no one is getting paid to post here. Everyone here is being generous with their time & expertise and participate because they either want to learn something or teach something. You may get answers in hours, but it may take a few days to get any responses. Be patient.

@Soexcited - It’s certainly true that soap and cleansing changes up the skin’s microbiome but I wonder, is that bad?  We’ve been doing it for at least a couple hundred years. What has been the negative effect on the human population?

Perhaps we have more skin conditions than previous populations, but I imagine we also have less infections and spread of diseases.

January 31, 2019 at 2:08 pm in reply to: Where to learn more about US regulatory rules/guidelines?

This is a challenging question because it comes down to a legal opinion. The FDA (and the FTC which is the group responsible for policing cosmetic claims) has specifically said this about “cruelty free.”

Some cosmetic companies promote their products with claims of this kind in their labeling or advertising. The unrestricted use of these phrases by cosmetic companies is possible because there are no legal definitions for these terms.”

    (emphasis mine)

So, the FDA pretty much has said you have unrestricted use. Now, you’ll have to have some way of supporting your claim which you’ve already suggested. This is in the event that some lawyer or consumer challenges you in court. But based on what the FDA has said, I see nothing wrong with your strategy. However, I’m not a lawyer and you shouldn’t take legal advice from a non-lawyer chemist.

What type of hair are you using?

If the hair is not damaged, it is not going to adhere as well. Try it with bleached damaged hair.

Where I worked if there was any change in the formula outside of specifications it was a stability fail.

What you describe sounds like a failure to me. Especially since the product will likely experience temperatures over 40C at times during storage in a warehouse.

Ultimately, it is up to you to decide what changes are acceptable. If it fails microbial stability then nothing is acceptable. If the changes are aesthetically different, then your customers may not care.

I agree with @MarkBroussard. There probably was a product like that on the market. But for business reasons (e.g. not enough customers, bad timing or not enough profit) it didn’t last.

It’s likely that nearly every idea that anyone conceives has already been tried on the market. If it’s not still around, it failed and was abandoned. That doesn’t mean someone else can’t take the same idea and be successful with it.
