I have. And the issue is not usually with the brand. They can be reasoned with. The issue is the retailers they sell to. Each has a no no list. They all vary so there is no one standard to formulate. These brands sell in these forums so must comply. And it sucks. For me. Lol

    @Cosmetic_Chemist

Your best approach is to formulate to a specific Natural Standard such as Natural Products Association, COSMOS, etc. There is significant overlap between the various standards as to what ingredients they classify as “natural”.  The issue you may run into is retailers who have their own definition, but again, these are really quite uniform.  For instance, if your client wants to formulate NPA compliant products and sell them through Credo and Whole Foods, then it narrows down significantly what ingredients are going to be acceptable to those retailers.

Exactly, unless you have your own selling channel then you can defy your own “natural”.

@Perry - There’re some products claimed supranatural ingredients or powers, well they are just only marketing claims tho.

Pharma mentioned calves because hair loss associated with PAD usually occurs on lower limps (legs and feet).

@Stanley There is no rigid study demonstrate hair (on the head) loss correlate with DM. There’re concerns expressed in some demographic groups.

Paradoxically, one of the most common factors was just recently described—the metabolic syndrome (i.e., insulin resistance) [4548]. Recently, Nabaie et al. reported a no significant relationship between androgenetic alopecia and insulin resistance in a case-control study; however, others have argued that early androgenetic alopecia is a marker of insulin resistance [4950]. Hence, the association, while plausible, remains open to debate. The most accepted classification/grading system for men is the Norwood-Hamilton classification and the Ludwig scale for women [51].

If your patient concerns about hair (on his/her head) loss, you may prescribe Minoxidil solution.

“…uncontrolled diabetes can damage blood vessels and when they happens, the body is unable to transport oxygen and nutrients to hair follicles.”

    How true is this?

In theory, it may be yes or no, hair loss is not a diagnostic criteria for Diabetes mellitus or listed as a complication in textbook.

No, eating shampoo doesn’t help you control your blood sugar.

SEPIWHITE™ MSH - is quite good for age spots, but it take 6-12 months to see a good result.
Radianskin™ by BASF - another quite good one, but it takes 8-12 months to see a good result.
And a good stable L-ascorbic acid serum formula will also do the job quite well.

The finish product is filled by volume, for small lot like 3,000 units, I think it may be easier to estimate batch size by volume and translate back to grams in production, it is just my non-formulator opinion.

I’m not in production team so I don’t know how they really calculate batch size but they would have specific gravity on hand and so they would know how many grams they need.

Speaking from client point of view, I once outsourced small bottle of perfume oil to be thank you gifts for our clients, at first I got a price quote by weight but they just used sp.g of 1, the cost per unit was really unreasonably high. So I request a new quote by volume which made the cost per unit acceptable.

It’s a bit weird to sell hair spay with only these 3 ingredients.

    Let’s wait for Dr.Phil.

I don’t see a point of adding 2% of claim ingredient, usually at 0.1 is more than enough, unless you want to claim the actual 2% in label and marketing.

We add expensive fancy stuff for claim, not cheaper one.

Not sure about starch as high as 2% in deo cream. It might absorb sweat and sebum and sit there then start to stink after 2-4 hrs. You might get a wet gluey rather than dry and silky feel, it will depend on individual too and have to consider the climate where your customers base as well.

I see some brands go with arrowroot.

Are the Indie brands just clueless

I don’t think they are totally clueless, natural deo works to some extent though not as good as antiperspirant, but most of indie to midsized brand want to put out natural deo.

Seeing theses flowers, Hibicus is (or maybe) potentially good for skin (?). There’re some studies on Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and most Korean konws Hibicus, let’s make some brews.

You know…I generally finish all products with

    Polymethylsilsesquioxane

I knew you use silicone, so I mentioned natural-ish(?) ingredients for your apprentice.

    So you are a microsoft?

With hardcore marketing and enough time to create a cult, I could make people believe that you actually are an apple, the resurrection of the sin of Adam and Eve, if you want.

Well joking aside, have you come to term with what you comfortable calling yourself?
As much as I love cosmetic ninja but please don’t go with it definitely.

  • @jemolian - The 5% Panthenol version is still on sale in asia, distributed from Hong Kong I believe. They might replace it with the new version soon I guess.

I assumed the product in your original post is the jar with green sticker manufactured by Cannabis farm in British Columbia.

I didn’t know Dr.Joe’s LivRelief has a CBD line so I googled and it turned out this product has nothing to do with the original company (or has it?).
    With similar name and logo.
It was made in BC not Quebec like the products from original company.
That drug store should not have it on sale.

Thank you @Pharma - I didn’t know it’s a solvent, they listed it as an emollient so I thought it’s just a simple lipid phase ingredient.

C11-13 Isoparaffin is also an alkane so it should be a solvent as well, no?

    That’s why C5 was used I supposed.

What I’m trying to say is that it removed all sebum from my skin and left the area where I’ve tried it white as if I had used acetone or white spirit. I suppose that this washing out effect may be corrected by adding emollients and oils.

I didn’t feel it must be because my marketer skin is too thick.

    Thank you very much   :) :) :)

I’ll try to keep it short. I had a discussion with one girl, who allegedly wrote a book about FDA requirements after graduating.

She might be one of those youngsters who think they are right about everything, everything revolves around them.

There was (I think, my brain is feeling old lately) dog food label as meat but didn’t actually contain meat, FDA issued a letter and the company had to recall their product.
