On top, I use any moisturiser I make.

My usual combo is Sepinov EMT 10 + Easynov, or Sepiplus 400 + Easynov.

@MarkBroussard Yes! plant extract that comes under ayurveda/siddha.. like turmeric or sandal, you can just mention their percentages and leave everything out.

In India, there is something called AYUSH (dept for Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, etc). If you make a product (personal care products or drugs) using ayurvedic/siddha herbs, you don’t necessarily have to get an FDA licence. You can go for an AYUSH license. Like how Biotique (and many other brands) has done.
Here, you only have to mention the herbs and its percentage on label, and base/excipients.
What many brands do is that they use just one or two herbs (not even according to ayurveda/siddha principles) in a product, and get it licensed under AYUSH, just so they won’t have to mention ingredients. -
In a shampoo, I added about 5% Aqua SF 1 to base water first with slow mixing, then added all other ingredients. The pH was around 7.5 (due to APGs), which I brought down to 5.5-6 with citric acid. Final product was clear, with about 5000-5500 cps viscosity. Surfactant active concentration was around 14-15%.

MemberOctober 1, 2021 at 10:20 am in reply to: 15% Urea cream - Crystals forming in the tube opening@em88 I meant that there was no separation (probably shouldn’t have said stable?).
We squeeze the tube to get the cream out and close the cap, and open it again the next day to get more cream.. there are crystals in the opening, which come out along with the cream. Just a tiny bit. This did not happen with 5% or 10% urea.
Haven’t had time to work more on the 15% cream. -

MemberOctober 1, 2021 at 6:34 am in reply to: 15% Urea cream - Crystals forming in the tube opening@em88 Yes it is stable. But still there are crystals forming in the tube opening.
@amitvedakar We re-formulated with 10% urea and its stable. -

MemberSeptember 16, 2021 at 10:11 am in reply to: 15% Urea cream - Crystals forming in the tube openingThe pH by itself is 6.28. So, I left it a such. Should I still do something to increase shelf life?
I will try adding glycerin or polyols.
Thanks for the help

1. Always get data sheets from suppliers and read thoroughly to understand how to use that particular ingredient. Like how to disperse gums or how to use a certain polymer, incompatibilities, etc. This will give you 70-80% idea, and will help reduce the number of trials you take.
Not every detail will be mentioned on the data sheet.
2. Do not blindly believe what a supplier says about an active ingredient, even if they show you all their clinical study report and data sheets. Many times its BS.
3. Take small trials if possible.. i usually do 100g trials for emulsions, 50g trials for surfactant systems/handmade soaps, and 20g trials for serums/oils/balms/etc. This way you don’t waste raw materials.
4. And as everyone said, always use grams and calculate in percentages.
5. Raw materials from different manufacturers may perform differently. I recently suggested to one of my clients Decyl glucoside from BASF (after doing a lab trial) and they bought it from some other manufacturer without letting us know, made a 250kg batch of shampoo.. ended up with a slimy goo and basically no foam. I had to visit their factory in person and look at all their raw materials to find this out.
Remember to take a lab trial every time you change raw material supplier, and always tell the client/3P to let you know.
6. Note down all your observations. -

HDPE bottles.
No, I don’t manufacture it. -

MemberJune 28, 2021 at 6:47 am in reply to: Non irritating preservative for children skin@PhilGeis Yes, We did full stability study. All the products were at pH 5.5.
The products were for 5-16 year olds.
I had to use it because the client wanted it to be ‘natural’ and had a lot of ‘free from’ claims.
Tried geoguard and spectrastats, there was drop in visocity. -
See if you can replace cocoyl glutamate with sodium lauroyl sarcosinate 20%. Increase coco betaine to 15%. Bring down CMEA to 1 or 2% (may not even be necessary).
Now I think you can thicken with salt and CDEA 1-2%.
Also check if silicones are affecting your viscosity.I dont think glycerin is going to help with color protection or anything.
What is Gel aqua?

MemberJune 26, 2021 at 7:36 am in reply to: Non irritating preservative for children skinI’ve tried Euxyl K 712 at 1.5% for kids skin and hair care products, both leave on and rinse off formulations (pH 5.5). We even got all the products tested for safety, with consumer evaluation study. Give it a try.

I tried using 3% tranexamic acid serum on my face (hyperpigmented regions) for 2 weeks. No difference. Probably should have given it more time?

@MetalizeMerz I have tried to remove either and both together, still the problem persists. I kind of suspect GHTC. Trials are ongoing.

I will look into the second method you have mentioned; it’s totally new to me. -

MemberMarch 23, 2021 at 4:08 am in reply to: Cream face wash soap based too foamy! Ways to deaerate?@Perry I am using a propeller stirrer, 4 bladed. I also have 3 bladed (flat one). Please suggest a suitable type.

Hi @singhc10 I have tried mixing it for upto an hour and half. I do not have a sweep mix. I use a propeller stirrer and every few minutes use a spatula to push material on the sides in.
Yes, Lamesoft does take a lot of time. Thats why I mix it with Cocoglucoside and then add it in.
I see the sedimentation the next day or after centrifuging for 10 mins at 2300 rpm. -
Hi @singhc10 I’m using PQ 73 at 3% (20% active). I have tried removing it, still there’s sedimentation.
I do not have Ninol CAA. What does it do here? Is there an alternate?
