I have heard that fragrance is encapsulated in detergent powders.

@h__w If you want to add Xanthan gum after surfactants, you can mix it with equal amount of glycerin, and add.

    Carbomer works!
I usually prepare a 2% solution and keep (with preservative).  I add how much I need of this solution, post emulsification, depending on the viscosity I want, and adjust pH.
From what I have observed, the final product thickens the next day. So I’d say don’t add too much.

@smok Yes, ethanol will work. But I cannot get a large quantity (to make batches of soap) easily where I live without proper license.

    @Ronal I have used 1-1.5% PQ 7 and 0.5% PQ 10 together.

@smok To dissolve the soap that is formed. This will give you transparency.

@Ronal Sodium cocoyl isethionate dont go well in liquid formulation even at a very low concentration, leave alone 10%. This will sediment overtime.

Tea tree oil 1% is too high.

I am also not sure about 7% dimethiconol. Its too high. May be you can add a polyquat and reduce dimethinocol.

Lauryl glucoside at15% will not do much (at least for me). You can use it in a combination with anionic or amino acid based surfactants.. it will give you better foam and cleaning.

I personally dont get the use of glycerin in shampoo. It’ll just wash off. If you are looking for moisturizers, I have found ‘Lamesoft PO 65’ to work really well.

*Still new to the field. Correct me if I’m wrong*

@Belassi  I added the lye solution slowly to the oils with constant mixing. After I poured the whole solution, I covered the vessel with foil. So, will there have been NaOH to react with the aluminium foil?
But, never thought of this at all! OMG!

@ketchito Hey! I did the whole process, covering the vessel. I covered the vessel with aluminium foil, leaving a small gap for steam to escape. It worked. My soap is clear!
And the soap is 100g approx (formula was for 120g). The water loss was as expected.
    Thanks for your inputs :)

@ketchito I calculated the NaOH needed for my oils, but used little more than that, just to be safe. I avoided any super-fating as it might affect the transparency.

For the cooling, do you suggest i keep it in the refrigerator?

Other doubt… my formula is for 120g, to get 100g soap after evaporation loss. If 20g water has not evaporated, will that affect the clarity? Or if i let too much water evaporate, will that affect my clarity? I am not sure how much water is lost, as it is difficult to get the exact weight of my soap. After i pour it in the mold, there is so much wastage in the vessel, stirrer, spatula and seive. If i try to weigh it with the vessel before pouring in the mold, it hardens so quickly. Is that hardening due to excess water loss?

Hi @ketchito ! If i saponify my oils without the surfactants, i am getting a very hard mass. I am not able to dissolve it in the surfactants then. That is why i mixed both.
And for the cooling part.. i just pour it in my mold and leave it on the table overnight. Where i am, the temperature is always on the hotter side; so i know it is not cooling down rapidly.

I can probably try to saponify under closed conditions, giving it more time than i do now.

  • You can try Methocel 40-0202, which is HPMC from Dow.

@Abdullah yes. I include APGs in my shampoo formula because my company supplies them.

But, I have used it in face wash (liquid form in a foaming pump bottle) and intimate wash for its purpose.

@Abdullah I have used 2-5% plantacare 2000 (decyl glucoside, 50% active) in my SLES based shampoos. It does give a little bit of softness to hair..But as @Perry said, its just for claim purposes.

But, I have used plantacare 1200 (lauryl glucoside) in fruit and veg wash, where the label should say ‘natural’ and little to no foam is required.

Make a carbopol gel with water, then add that to IPA. Neutralize with NaOH or TEA.

@Fekheri, density of IPA is 0.78509 . So that multiplied by 75 (ml) should give you the weight of it, which is 58.88 g. I Approximated it to 60.

@justaerin the WHO guideline i read said 75% v/v of IPA which is about 60% w/w.

@justaerin why do you need  70% IPA anyway? You only need 60% w/w as per WHO.

And for ethanol, i guess you need 73.5% w/w.
