@Gordof I wish I could use Parabens but at the moment that’s not an option unfortunately.
@grapefruit22 I am looking into the Chlorphenesin because I see that it is compatible with Phenoxyethanol with Caprylyl Glycol.
@PhilGeis If USP 51 is a poor challenge test could you please advise what would be a more efficient and effective test to request the lab to perform. I don’t want to waste my money on unnecessary testing and this particular test is $2000. Please advise! Thank you!Thank you all for taking time to respond to my thread! Very much appreciated!

My pH is 6.75 per lab
If the pH is reduced any further my formula would be too cloudy. So this would be the lowest pH to preserve the clarity of my formula.
My ingredients are as follows:
Water
Ceteareth 25
Acudyne 1000
Peg 7 glyceryl cocoate
Peg 40 hydrogenated castor oil
AMP ( neutralization)
Optiphen PlusIf the pH is too high for Optiphen Plus I may need to change the preservative altogether. Any suggestions?

@grapefruit22 helpful information! I will definitely make some adjustments in my claims. Do you suggest any labs in particular for this?
-
@Perry Thanks for this. I thought the prices were pretty steep as well but was unsure of my options. Would you recommend anyone that could possibly direct me to a lab that performs test such as these so that I may price compare or if you can think of an alternative way of getting these claims validated so that I am able to use the data for advertising and also in my defense in court if needed. Thanks so much!

@Perry Thank you for your feedback!

@Graillotion Thanks for the information! The only thing is I’m not sure that I can lower the pH to under 6 and still have a good working formula. I’m using AMP 2000 as a neutralizer and if enough is not used I will not have a clear formula. It will be yellow or a very hazy cloudy gray color.

Ok. My main preservative is optiphen plus and one of my ingredients has a preservative within it, Benzoic Acid. Thanks for responding

MemberApril 16, 2021 at 12:33 am in reply to: Neutralizing polyacrylate-2 crosspolymer@ozgirl I thought the same thing to reduce the Fixate. What ph meter would you recommend because the ones I have purchased are not compatible with putting it in the final product. Any with a metal probe that you can recommend for easier cleaning?

Thanks so much for responding! I had to change to a different preservative.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I really appreciate you taking time to respond. Thanks again!

@mhart123 I contacted the supplier and there are no safe harbor limits so I would have to put a warning on the product if I decided to manufacturer it. Would you have any idea of an ingredient that is superb like the Fixate Superhold polymer. Firm but soft hold, no flakes, humidity resistant, doesn’t turn white after it is applied. I am creating an edge control/hair gel. Thanks so much!

@PhilGeis
@Perry
Thanks so much for responding. Are there any specific test that need to be performed? This is a message I got from a lab I contacted and wanted to be sure these test are necessary. See below:Pricing is attached for:
standard aerobic plate count (for
detection of bacterial and fungal contaminants), USP 51
preservative challenge (for compliance with US
regulations) and 10 week stability testing (to establish
up to a 1 year shelf life).Please let me know if
you require testing compliant with EU regulation, and I
will be happy to update the quotes appropriately for you.I am unfamiliar with these test and want to make sure they are needed before I send samples off and my payment. Thanks ????

MemberJanuary 12, 2021 at 3:29 am in reply to: Small Homogenizer recommendations (for purchase)@suswang8 I appreciate the response. Yes the overhead mixer is usually at a higher speed because the blade is so small it doesn’t mix very well so I set it at a higher speed to mix better but in turn I get major bubbles. So I will be mixing small batches right now around 1500g. I saw one on amazon for a couple hundred dollars but the reviews said it does mix the contents in a 1500ml beaker well and thats the size I would be using. So to answer your questions are; around 1500g batches at a time and a few hundred dollars if thats even possible. Would a homogenizer be my best best or is it common to mix a batch that size by hand? Thanks again.

@klangridge Thanks so much! It will be a product applied to the edges/front hairline so definitely will be in contact with the roots of the hair and through my research denatured alcohol was strongly discouraged for African American hair products which thats what I have created. Thanks so much for taking time to reply!
@singhc10 thanks so much! I will look into that as an alternative! Thanks for taking time to reply!
