theoretically cetyl alcohol is emulsifier cause it has both hydrofilic and hydrophobic groups, but in experimental it is emulsifier via thickining effect(not being active in surface). In my opinion every material which helps in the stability of an emulsion is emulsifier. some are active in interface( correct and scientific explanation of an emulsifier) such as GMS  and some are thickening(like cetyl alcohol).

@bobzchemist you mean every cationic ingredient is incompatible with carbomer?

@belassi what experiment do u perform to test the stability of your cream? do u centrifuge it?

@bobzchemist I wish I could explain it in best way.

as I read in some papers when we have anionic surfactants in our formula here betain acts like a salt( cause it produces both anion and cation) and increasing in  viscosity is in high amount.but when we have cationic, amphoteric or nonionic surfactant betain doesnt any much affect in viscosity. why?  anionic radius is far more than cationic one so alteration in micelle structures is more,  viscosity is function of these structures so it is altered too.

“But, it is best technique to add your KOH very slowly while monitoring
your solution pH with a pH meter … when you hit the right point, the
Carbomer will gel.  At that point, stop adding KOH.” thats the best way.
and I have problem with carbomer too, I make hand creams with carbomer 940 and it irritates

@bobzcemist so thickening process doesnt due to betain and NaCL.

@markbroussard if I use exceed KOH in my lotion(causes high pH), is it true to adding citric acid t? is it good way?

belassi talks about natural soap, it mean that KOH+stearic acid gives u natural soap which thickens your body lotion.

without anionic surfactant how can u thicken by betain and NaCl?

@eli aqua SF-1 is carbopol, but the polymer for suspending beads is neither carbomer nor carbopol. its poly acrylic acid derivative such as acrylate/stearath20 methacrylate cross polymer

Im sure I disperse properly but I feel irritating. maybe because of other ingredients in my hand cream. carbomer compatibility is somewhat complicated!!!!!

@belassi I should completly solve it in water ok(without fish eyes)? and then neutrulize ok? , so the way of solving has nothing to do with irritating.

<not enough to generate a stable emulsion> if it is not enought to generate a stable emulsion it doesnt mean it makes the emulsion seperate( a clear 2 seperated phase ), I mean in biphasic hair mask something like peg-12 dimethicone just can solve 2 phase and it  can not make them seperate.  do u agree with me?

@pepe <the sufficient amount of silicone emulsifier get two phase together and within the shortest possible time make them seperate> we suppose have sufficient amount of peg12 dimethicone in our emulsion ok? how it can get two phase together and make them seperate in one moment!!!??
