Not sure where I heard it was ethoxylated, but I just found out it is not!
I would still be curious if anyone has compared AVC to EMT10/WEO.

I noticed you had success with butyloctyl salicylate as the solvent. What would be the appropriate usage rate to solubilize the 10% azelaic? Thank you for your help/insight!

Thank you! Aloha to you as well.

@Graillotion I have the AVC and am ready to experiment next week! One question I have is about pH adjusting when using AVC. I have seen other electrolyte-sensitive polymers mention pH adjusting can negatively affect viscosity. How are you pH adjusting, if needed, when using AVC?
-
@Graillotion Thank you! I might just convince the client to remove the electrolyte offender from the formula (not doing much of anything)
Batch a sample with AVC (no electrolyte) and without the AVC (with electrolyte and different polymer). I am definitely trying to chase that gorgeous texture/skin feel AVC promises.
If I use AVC, what is the best companion to it? I see you like carbomers? I have Sodium Carbomer on hand. I have the emollient cascade down, now I want to get the polymers perfected.
I’ll try Zen as well. I have a sclerotium/xanthan blend on hand (ActigumVSX20), but do you think Solagum AX is best with Zen?

@MarkBroussard I think I have asked this before, but I can’t find the thread. Have you tried any of the dimethicone alternatives like the LexFeel N series? Do you find they also have some anti-soaping properties? Just trying to source materials for clients that are anti-silicone for whatever bizarre reason they have.
-
@Perry fascinating. Makes sense. Thank you!

I do not have a sample of this (yet) but the client says it has no crystals after sitting for months. I also question the SA content given the location on the IL (have not seen CoQ10 used at 2%+) but it is marketed as 2% all over the website.

Also, there is a brand that sells “harmonized water”. Water that is “infused with scalar waves” - leads to the water molecules “imprinted with frequencies” that when ingested can “balance out the frequencies in the body that lead to disease”. NO JOKE. They have claimed these waters can cure lots of things, including skin diseases, a “drinkable SPF”, etc. You can’t make this shit up.

Do you happen to know if AMT owns Formulator Sample Shop? They have a link to them at the bottom of the website, they are located in the same city in N. Carolina, and FSS pushes a lot of the AMT ferments! Maybe just a coincidence but it seemed too suspicious.

@ketchito @Graillotion sorry for the delayed response! (on vacation). I don’t have images of my retains until I get back, to show the darkening.
This is a product for a device manufacturer client, where the solution is being applied to the skin through a machine that uses pressure/suction. They just wanted to improve upon their existing formulas. Think “hydro dermabrasion”
It’s a pretty simple formula of about 50% polyol (glycerin/dipropylene glycol), 5% NaLactate, 5% of the Ceramide complex dispersion, and a beta-glucan dispersion. The rest is H2O, EDTA, and the Euxyl PE 9010.
My assumption is that the slight darkening is from the lipids in the Ceramide complex, hence me thinking oil-soluble AOX is needed. I will definitely experiment with the NAC (I have on hand) and the Toco.

The heating question is regarding post-application on the hair, not during formulation. It seems a lot of the polymers, after application to the hair, require some sort of heat source to “activate” the fixative and film-forming properties. Maybe I am wrong!

Different Matt. 🙂 Those prices are incredible, though. You trust the source? Are they easy to work with? Do you happen to have a contact?
@Graillotion You weren’t kidding. MySkinRecipes is a great source. I ordered a kilo last Friday, and it will be here Tuesday next week. Thanks, again!
