thank you. Hexanediol CG s not cheap. Do i really need it? The formula has it at 3%? The preservative (i think germell plus) is already on the list if ingredients

I found a formula for dark circles around the eyes.  Ingredients as follows; caprylic capr trig 15%, hexylene glycol 3%, tylitylglucocoside+anydroxylitol and xylitol3%, hydroxyethyl acrylate, sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer 2%, polyacrylate cross polymer-6 2%, butylene glycol & chemoopdium quinoa seed extract 2%, penoxyethanol+ethylheylgly 1% fragrance .10%.  I cannot seem to find HEXYLENE GLYCOL online. Any substitute suggestions?

Greetings!!! I am making a cream with peptides and niacinamide. For phase C they want me to use 2% GelMaker EMU (inci name: Sodium acrylate / sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, isohexadecane, polysorbate 80).

I want to know if there is another ingredient I can use to substitute GelMaker. Could I substitute the GelMaker for Simulgel INS 100?

Simulgel INS 100= (Hydroxyethyl Acrylate / Sodium Acryloyl Dimethyl taurate co-polymer &Isohexadecane & Polysorbate 60 for GelMaker EMU

They seem similar. Again this is for 2% which is defined as a thickener/emulsifier.

Also, I’d like to know if it would be appropriate to add a silicone gel crosspolymer pre-neutralized polymer to the cream formulation?

The data says this crosspolymer can used with an emollient such as cetyl alcohol 1%. (see below inci name for crosspolymer).

The actives would be tripeptide-5 at 3% and argireline at 5%. But since I have Matrix 3000 and not tripeptide 5 I want to use Matrix3000.  Matrix300 inci: glycerin (and) Aqua (and) Butylene Glycol (and) Carbomer (and) Polysorbate 20 (and) Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 (and) Palmitoyl.

INCI NAME: Dimethicone (and) Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer. This product  is said to have a light feel. It’s described as a silicone gel crosspolymer. The name is all in initials and from China. It’s USG-107A.

Yes. Thanks everyone. I’m going a different direction for now and start all over.

  • I’m new to all this and I have a lot to learn. The formula is a body wash and has Decyl Glucoside (and) Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, and coca betaine as the surfactants. And it has Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters aka Olivem 300 as a solubilizer. I don’t have Olivem 300. I was wondering what I can use instead? I read I can use a Shea Water Soluble to replace the Olivem 300. It’s 3 percent of the formula. Can i use polysorbate 20? Can I make Shea Water Soluble with 50% water and 50% shea. Its a lot of work for 3% of the product.  but I don’t have an alternative on hand except poly 20.

Thank you for your response. So ingredients as follows: water obviously and the following: polyquaternium 7,tetrasdoium EDTA, bamboo extract, sodium isethionate, coco betaine, isoamyl laurate aka (dermafeel sensolv), castor oil, e.o’s 1.40% . And vitamin E glycerin, bamboo powder, geogard 221. I  was not impressed with the final product. I had a hard time dissolving the isethionate, but someone on the gave me feedback on how to melt. I haven’t retried it yet.

  • I’m working on a body wash and the formula asks for 20% Sodium Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Silk,15% decyl glucoside and 15% coco betaine.  The reason of their choice is that  of decyl glucoside is strong foaming . I have capryl capryl glucoside. Will that change the formula much? And does anyone know of any ingredients that can make body wash more luxurious? This is the first time I’ve posted. Please be patient with me. Im not a chemist.
