Moomin secondly, do not treat Perry & the volunteer chemists like a call centre expecting instant answers to questions that are actually so far above your head that it’s not worth our time & effort to explain.

Abusing a group of volunteers is a low act. Just like volunteer firefighters they do not expect to be insulted.
If you would like to learn and be educated to formulate a product like this Perry has your answers. He is a very knowledgeable and amazing human that also does a lot of free work and fundraising for the community. Treat him with respect please.
    Thankyou

Moomin firstly listen to Microformulation, and Everyone is trying to find a natural or organic deo in many forms that actually work & can replace Aluminum. So once you learn some chemistry get in line and start research because we are all trying to find the holy grail that will replace Al.

Just trying to help. You said in the message the questions were for pH adjustment. Like Mark said you knew the answer & I just told you what to do. The strong base works and it’s easy to buy in small quantities.

If you are make a diy product and you need to have a final pH of say 6 then NaOH will work so use it.
Wear gloves & dilute it so it’s again safer to use. That’s all.
Thanks Abdullah you knew I was just being helpful.

Use NaOH and make up a dilution before you add drops for pH adjustment

If you are making a product and want to claim for blue light protection. DSM have a product called Pepha Age. It is supposed to protect your skin from blue light also coming from the computer.

Look and see if they have done any clinical trials, they usually do so they can back up the ingredients they make. They are also very nice and approachable. They may send you a sample to try.
    hope this helps

Try to buy a bottle of flat bottled water, not mineral water infused with gas. If you use tap water from a 3rd world country I would firstly boil it then cool it. Then as Perry says use a higher dose of a chelator. Most of us use EDTA or the natural version is Sodium Phytate. Then make sure you use both vitamin E, tocopherol isomers for shelf life & to abate free radical product degradation.

Also, leave the water in the 1 spot for a few days to a week as there may be sedimentation in the water column. If so that will precipitate out whilst stable with no movement and you will find it at the bottom. Then transfer the clear water to another vessel. And your ready to go!

August 30, 2022 at 5:13 pm in reply to: PE9010 was a disappointment

We all use PE 9010 from schulke, this is not the reason this formula is destabilizing.
If you send me your formula I will take a look & tell you what needs tweaking. No charge.
    just email it at: catherine@drprattscosmeticformulating.com
and don’t worry I’m not interested in stealing your formula just happy to help out. It’s probably a temperature thing. If you have only just started formulating emulsions, you need to nip this straight away.

My phone is: +61 423603068 Australia.
I’ve seen people just give up completely at this stage, and I will bet it’s something easy you have overlooked plus I’m doing this all the time.

  • Isn’t that just called Viagra?

  • Yes I thought I would get some pro pole dancing comments.

    Have a few questions:
    1. Do you have a 14 yr old daughter?
    2. There are many different types of excercise. Where do you think a pole could lead.
If there is a minuscule chance that anything my daughter does could lead her down the wrong path, would you take the chance?

Sorry but there is NOTHING good about this area of life. I feel sorry for women that have to spend any time there. I wouldn’t be positive about it, I would try to help them out from it!
    That’s all!
  • Glad you enjoyed it Squinny! Certainly nice to share and have a laugh.
That is two pole dancing jobs I have had in a decade, and my main goal in life is to make sure I keep my daughter off the pole.
The women take pole dancing classes and also enjoy taking their daughters along as well for the exercise?????
I say absolutely NOTHING good can come of even being near a dancing pole designed for stripping off clothes for men??
    Thoughts?

  • Have a new weirdo formula & I just finished it!

A Pole Dancing grip glue, organic of course!!
I seem to get all the pole dancers ha!
Although, this guys wife just won Australia’s got talent & now has been sent to the finals of America’s got talent doing her pole dancing routine with the pole adhesive grip!!

#Emma Rice Bran wax mixed with cetyl alcohol or palmitate is good for sticks.
Sunflower wax mixed with candililla wax can work. I do have a beeswax alternative using sunflower oil, and 2 plant waxes. If anyone wants the ratios I’m happy to send to you.

Yes yes feeling rather passionate down under today! Glad to here that beekeepers don’t actually make their primary living from these little creatures. However, right now as you are most likely going through too, is continually trying to find beeswax alternatives to achieve peace and happiness amongst clients. To my surprise you can buy a product called ‘Beeswax Alternative’ & Lanolin Alternative which I had to get, just too funny.

I think you all know the point I’m making, it doesn’t really bother me but I just worry in such uncertain times, why? and being chemists we love our pure compounds, how can you find much better than a wax so pure & chemically has so many attributes naturally!!
This is all so a product label can have that 5 letter word!
why so strict? I say get out the Patchouli and let your hair down, maybe we are ready for a variant on this pathway!?
    Thoughts??

I know this is an older post, however I have to say BEESWAX is and always will be the best natural wax in the world for cosmetics. You need a wax that above all things, is malleable and this gorgeous wax is made from bees. Correct me if I am wrong, but the bees are not harmed during this process. Plus, not using beeswax has put a lot of our local farmers out of business for absolutely no reason. I thought we were to help our primary producers, not kill their careers and income for their families. This does not make sense to me.
I have nothing against anyone’s preference for food, gender, anything really, but taking away people’s lively hood for no GOOD reason is really ridiculous and callous. Additionally, tending to bees I am quite sure it is an art that will now be a dying skill and will not be passed on through the generations. Very sad indeed.
Maybe Vegans need to rethink the rules.
Any suggestions on how to save the use of beeswax?

  • Plus beetroot and hibiscus plant extracts are highly unstable and a nightmare to use as the primary colours.

June 4, 2022 at 8:27 am in reply to: orange spots/colonies in finished product (Cream)

Hello Priya your packaging may be attacking your cream as there are no chelating complexes to mop up the metal ions now floating around in your cream. These metal ions undergo a myriad of reactions that cause orange to brown spots in the product depending on whether your jar is glass or plastic. You will need some EDTA or Sodium Phytate which is the natural version.
Euxyl 9010 is a great preservative, I don’t think it is a microbial problem, so it is an easier fix, but you will need to add in the EDTA which is painful if the jars have already been filled.
I hope that explains the problem.
