Hi, I live in WI where it’s cold and
dry in the winter. I’ve been trying to make something akin to Olay’s
Age Defying Body Wash for my own home use but so far haven’t been
able to make it as bubbly as I’d like. I get my ingredients from
    Lotioncrafter, Formulator Sample Shop, etc.

The list of ingredients for the P &
G product is as follows: WATER,
PETROLATUM, SODIUM TRIDECETH SULFATE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, COCAMIDOPROPYL
BETAINE, TRIDECETH-3, FRAGRANCE, NIACINAMIDE*, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE**,
SODIUM CITRATE, GUAR HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM
BENZOATE, XANTHAN GUM, GLYCERYL OLEATE, CITRIC ACID, DISODIUM EDTA,
    ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER,
METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE, METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE, YELLOW 5, RED 33

    My formula:

    Distilled Water - 51.2% (A)

    Glycerin - 2% (A)

Biolatum (plant based petrolatum) - 6%
    (B)

    Polawax - 2% (B)

    DLS - 15% (C)

    CAPB - 12% (C)

    SCI - 6% (C)

    Decyl Glucoside - 3% (C)

    Hydrolyzed Milk Protein - 2% (D)

    Liquid Germall Plus - 0.5% (D)

    Fragrance Oil - 0.3% (D)

    Crothix, as needed (0.25% -0.5%)

    I make a heated emulsion of Phases A &
B using high shear and then whisk in a cold processed Phase C . Once
everything is below 40*C, I add Phase D.

How can P & G can make petrolatum
#2 on the LOI when heavy oils work against foam & lather? They
use multiple surfactants to get great bubbles and foam but each is at
a lower percentage than the petrolatum. In my formulation, I’ve cut
back on the oil phase by decreasing percentages as well as
eliminating fatty thickeners. I’ve also increased the surfactant
percentages. I’m on my fourth iteration and this version is okay, but
    nothing to write home about.

I have other surfactants in addition to
those listed above: AOS-40, SCMI, SleS and SMC Taurate but am happy
to purchase other ingredients, especially if they can help with the
bubble factor. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might alter
my body wash formula to keep it moisturizing and occlusive but still
have some serious bubbles? Thanks so much!

    They have structured body wash.

Use surfactants that can make structured system.
    Every surfactant can’t make that.

@Bobalooey If you review patents from UL and P&G, you’ll see that what they are doing is suspending the oils, not making a emulsion. In that way, foam is not impaired. Also, the cationic polymer they use is a deposition aid for the oils, which you’re missing.

    @ketchito

this structured stuff is intriguing to me but also very mysterious. So you are saying that when you suspend the oils they do not suppress foam like they normally would? That sounds like something i’d like to try, surfactants combined with oils and tons of foam?!? sounds amazing. where does one get started with making formulas like this? And what exactly is patented about this, is it the particular surfactant that is used?
