I have observed the same and realised that an immediate and a very mild alkaline neutralisation will help you get a very uniform dispersion. I add it in my hot process shampoo during cool down phase mixed with Methocel 40-202, no issues at all.

No, GHTC first. Neutralize with citric acid to pH 4 and then SLES. Add the remaining surfactants and everything else once the surfactant mix is clear.
-
Amit what is FW; also when you use the cationic guar an acid neutralisation is required. Have you done it all?
Adding all the surfactants won’t be advisable as SLES needs to be dispersed/dissolved completely in the batch before you add other surfactants. As Perry mentioned, in such a formula salt can easily be the thickener. -
As per my old knowledge (not sure how accurately it holds now), oil free claims are for paraffin oil free formulations.

MemberJuly 19, 2019 at 10:26 am in reply to: My dishwashing liquid separates after a weekPoint is that benzalkonium chloride is cationic and SLES/LABSA anionic. Anything you do to adjust the formula isn’t going to work unless you take out the quat.

I see triethanolamine soap as a possible source which probably wasn’t quite visible initially. Now the foam/bubbles rising to the surface.

Marketing stories can be built around 0.01% as well honestly. As for dimethicone replacement, there are options with water solubility and you can easily go that route.
-
I will be very shocked if it didn’t separate with that amount of dimethicone and Argan oil. Plus why 1% panthenol when it will be washed away. And last but not the least, why that much essential oil??
-
To the same formulation, add around 6-8% SLES. Use sodium chloride to adjust the viscosity then as needed.

It’s more like a titration and you would have to add it gradually to get the desired pH.

Make a separate solution from batch water and add it.

Bill very well said, explained the same to the customer. Just needed to add some Acusol 882 from our portfolio ?

MemberApril 11, 2019 at 1:50 am in reply to: What make Silicone soluble in such hair cream?0.5% carbomer (I assume it is 940) by itself gives a very thick gel and I believe it will be sufficient to give you a very stable emulsion with the suspended dimwthicone. Though I haven’t tried adding 2%.

Mark I have a product in my lab given by a customer and which is a hair straightener formula. He said it is from Brazil and the straightening effect remains for 3-6 months. I was told to develop it, checked the pH. It was below 1 and I excused myself.

Cetyl Alcohol is a big help in such formulations in combination with your cetostearyl alcohol.

If still unclear and gritty, then there is an issue with your fixative. Or as @ngarayeva001 pointed out about ETDA.

How about simply using PEG-150 Distearate???

It’s good to know about your well being @johnb and I couldn’t agree more with what you have summed up above. Sometimes you know people through the writings and posts and you just want to know if they are doing fine. @Bobzchemist used to post regularly as well and few of the members here have contributed in a manner that we feel lucky to have gone through those posts.
Stay well and stay blessed. And a big thanks to @Perry for an initiative that is unparalleled and is almost like an institution itself. -
Concur with @Doreen, I doubt if that would be possible without increasing the carbomer. I am not sure which PEG you are referring to here and how it can build up viscosity.
