I remember using Dermacryl 79 with ethanol denat., was almost 10 years back. Not sure of anything recent though!!

guess you need to protect that 10% aqueous phase, also here most of the professionals suggest to use preservative even for lipo phase just in case. But as Dilfre said if the pH is above 10 then you can think of skipping it.

Methocel 40-202, try it and you would have a ‘creamy’ foam if that is what you are looking for, start @ 0.3% and see how it works out.

Almost same as Plantaren APB30 except the APG part.

Great stuff Bob, absolutely insightful esp. that aspect ratio.

It used to be called DC 556 Cosmetic Grade Fluid @manstra, but I cannot say with 100% conviction if it can work in an emulsion though in anhydrous silicone hair products it was wonderful.

You could use a plasticizer as Perry said, but it’s very unusual that HEC is used as the main ingredient in hair gels. It’s generally carbomers, pvp and other fixatives with some humectants, though TAFT types are a slightly different chemistry nonetheless very effective.
-
From my basic knowledge what I have seen is that certain products claimed oil free when they skipped mineral oil, oblivious to any such certificate though.
-
Seems to be a simple formulation in terms of processing so I suppose you can use a normal mixer. Eventually the batch is going to separate in 2 phases though while filling you make sure that the batch is continuously under mixing for favorable results.

@befremovska Although no issues in replacing the preservative, may I ask the reason for the replacement if you don’t mind.
-
Did you read any of the ingredient lists that are there on google, guess last I checked there were zillion examples of such products.
-
If you dont have any natural soap in there I am sure you can keep it below 8 but make sure it stays below 8 for Kathon CG to work.
-
As ozgirl said, don’t use kathon CG above pH 8 (it’s clearly not recommended). As for Aquacar IG50 I am using it and the product has passed 4 CC test by Dow Microbials but if you want to go ahead with Koralone that is entirely upto you. But you need to see the cost implications as well if you plan to use personal care ingredient in household care items.
-
1. Aquacar IG50 will be more suitable for household products and generally recommended, Kathon CG is more of PC grade and much expensive comparatively.
2. And did you try to see what will happen if you don’t neutralize LABSA before adding other ingredients, please experiment and this is how we all learn. This forum helps all and sundry but this is a not a ready reckoner. Also you have not mentioned what those other ingredients are, do you think these kind of queries will be entertained.Hope that gives you some shine to do things in your lab, hope you have one though.

There must be SOP for every product and it must be ensured that it is employed while charging the batches. It is indeed very strange to hear such a high percentage of batch reprocessing, has anyone tried pilot scales to make sure if they get it right before scaling up.

And what are the products we are talking about here????
