May I ask what is the purpose for using a cationic emulsifier over a non-ionic/anionic emulsifier?
If I wanted to use a thickening agent I would also have to use a cationic agent like a guar gum and not something like xanthan gum?

They will teach you everything you need to know. Each company has its own cGMPs and SOPs that you will need to read and follow. Just enjoy your time there. Be a sponge!!!

This may depend on how sophisticated you want to be, your facilities, and the size of your investment.
You can purchase kettles or small tanks if you have a place that has a boiler and heating system. I have seen companies use large cooking pots as tanks with hand held and detachable mixers. Heating is down on hot places or an electric heater. Tanks may come with and without mixers (centerpole and side sweep) .
If you are making thick products like the conditioner I would recommend something with a side sweep. Manual sweeping is a pain. I hope this helps.

I sent an email and got the most bland of replies in 3 paragraphs.. they tell me to examine Article 7 and Article 8 of Title 27, California Code of Regulations for safe harbors. Since my questioned is based on concentration they really stayed away from any sort of ranges. -

Thank you for the information. I hope you don’t mind me picking your brain a little more about the subject. I was trying to find out the permissible thresholds were. I have been told that even at “trace” ppm amounts you would still have to put the warning label on your products. I haven’t been able to confirm this. So is there a limit before you have to add the warning label? -
I got a letter from the vendor confirming the material may contain trace quantities of Prop 65 chemicals.
@Gunther
Can you offer an alternative? -
@biochemist thanks for the video.
In general are most of the regular chemicals being used in our emulsions safe for ingestion. In the previous sample lipstick goes on the lips but it does go inside the mouth and is swallowed to some small amount. Are there certain emulsifiers that I should stay away from?

@Perry -thanks!!!—

I am heating the oil phase to 60C. I dissolve it and add it in the cool down phase with the SAP. Do I need more arbutin?

I am concerned are these going to be as good or better than “real” micro that can take 3-7 days to perform. this will be a cost savings but at what price just save a few dollars. Do these test do yeast and mold as well as TCP and enrichment?

Could you use this in a intimate skin application? I have a customer that wants a petrolatum style thick product.

I noticed they are only using Poly -20 as an emulsifier between the dimethicone and emollient ester. I am wondering would Poly-20 be able to emulsify both with out separation.

Gentleman, I am trying to ascertain if this device would be something that would save us money in the long run or could be more of a liability in the future when something comes up bad and we don’t have proper testing done.

i will have to check but I am a trying to find out is this something new that cosmetic industry is looking into? How accurate and safe in the long run.
I am not familiar with the limulus dectection system?

Thank you for the responses…
would I need to go to a regular testing lab for these type of tests?I also understand that vendors normally may not do testing on certain parts of the body. Could I request this type of testing also?

I have no idea. they just made the request. I have asked —no answer…

What does it mean to have a cationic cream? How is it better for the skin care?

@Gunther
Thank you for the info. this will be used as a lubricant to reduce sensitivity. I am concentration lower than 3%. -

Hello again…
In calculating the actives to determine if a shower gel/shampoo etc meets a certain range…roughly over 10% (correct me if I am wrong)…
Is the active content based on the main (primary) surfactant alone or on all the surfactants collectively?
Is there some reading literature specifically on this calculation? Seems like this it “tribal knowledge.”
