Usually best to not use blends. One of the most reputable suppliers is Eden Botanicals as well as Perfumer Supply House, that stocks some of the best perfumery grade natural oils that are used in most high end fragrances.

I don’t have much experience with it, but isn’t TEC more of a humectant and water soluble?

Instead of using heavy oils, you’ll likely be much better off using a cream that is high in humectants like Urea, Sorbitol, Trehalose, Glycerin, Propanediol, Ammonium Lactate, Hyaluronic Acid (and one I very much dislike but might help if your skin is really dry, panthenol)

As a clean focused brand owner and someone generally obsessed with health, to me clean is about what is less likely to cause potential health problems we don’t necessarily know about yet or may never really connect the dots that for e.g. using a certain ingredient will increase the chances of developing liver cancer after 30 years of daily use. There are so many things that get banned or restricted over time, and aiming for clean is doing our best to anticipate and predict what may be more likely to cause some type of harm. And while every approved ingredient is in theory “safe”, so is most food, yet we know that a banana is healthier than a bag of doritos. So with clean, my aim is for using ingredients least likely to cause any harm. It takes some guessing and intuition combined with an understanding of biochemistry, but obviously we can’t know everything for certain. So it’s about making the best educated guess.

  • @Graillotion I always seem to have very similar opinions to your observations and favorite ingredients. I’ve been playing around with some new stuff from MSR the past few days and just this morning (before seeing your post) wrote down a concept formulation with Dicaprylyl Carbonate being the larges part of the oil phase and IsoN-IsoN being in there at about that ratio 😂

Vitamin E can be a pro-oxidant in larger amounts and less if often more. Combining a low dose of vitamin E with some Rosemary extract (that contains carnosic acid) would likely be better. You don’t really need much of E or rosemary to do a pretty good job. Natural seed oils contain about 15-30 mg/100g of vitamin E, and I usually aim for around that in my products.

Have you tried LexFeel 7 (Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate) or Cetiol Ultimate (Undecane (and) Tridecane). They seem like they might be what you’re looking for

Something that’s been discussed here a few times, using alcohol above about 20% should be effective. And an added benefit, it can make applying the product feel more refreshing. So far I only use it for my own projects and stick to the more usual “natural-adjacent” ingredients for commercial projects.

Thanks @Doreen! If a big brand like Paula’s Choice is using it without problems and complaints I’d assume it’s pretty unlikely to convert to Nicotine Acid at a reasonable pH or the Nicotinic Acid might not be too problematic for most people

@Microformulation I’m using very low concentrations of AHAs

  • Haven’t tried it myself but Triethyl Citrate might work

Gunther, will look into using Benzyl alcohol tho I am concerned it might be more irritating than ethanol
