Probably. Unless you’re living in Timbuktu.

I would just proportionally increase the other oils.

Amazing. The coffee shampoo is selling twice as well as the others despite the fact we priced it 50% more expensive. And we’re already getting repeat orders. I’m going to continue refining the details of this product.

Get rid of the olive oil unless you want the dandruff yeast, Malessezia, colonising your scalp. Since there is no water in this, you need only use an antioxidant.

Neither. Alcohol and salt both lower the freezing point. You’d freeze the product. If it is really important to keep a low temperature, you’d need to use a packaging technique for that. An alternative would be to package with some solid CO2 again using a proper package design but since CO2 is released I doubt postal authorities or couriers would accept it over the counter. Here in Mexico the post won’t even accept creams or gels.

Jojoba oil is not a preservative. Antioxidants are not preservatives. Without knowing your list of ingredients it is not possible to say more.

  • Thank you very much!

Since I have the sample my wife has been asking me to use it. Oh well. I don’t have any PEG400 solvent so I will have to use ethanol. I discovered a BASF formula for a face cream that has 15% ethanol in it. Hopefully I can dissolve the resveratrol in the ethanol first. Unfortunately there are no prep instructions so my question to you guys is, would you add the ethanol part last?
I don’t quite have all the ingredients so any comments on my suggested substitutes are very very welcome:

    Test formulation for
resveratrol based on formula SC-DE-11-175-3 (COSMOS face cream, BASF)

    I.

    Glyceryl Stearate SE 5.5%

    Stearic Acid 1.5%

    Cetearyl Alcohol 3%

Cegesoft® VP – try Kpangnan butter
    1%

    Cetiol® RLF – try Schercemol 185 8%

    Cegesoft® PS 6 Vegetable Oil – try
    jojoba oil
    6%

    Myritol® 312 Caprylic/Capric
    Triglyceride – try Myritol 318 6%

    Covi-Ox® T 90 EU C Tocopherol 0.50

Argan Oil - use Mamey oil instead (relative of Argan) 1%

    Xanthan Gum 0.2%

    II.

    Glycerin 8%

    Water 42.1%

    III.

    Ethanol Alcohol 15%

    trans-resveratrol 2%

    Fragrance 0.2%

Great! About 40 years ago, Marconi sent me on a course to learn the legal wrinkles of the INCO system. Later when I began an import company from Taiwan that knowledge became useful for the first time. In general my experience with Chinese suppliers has been good. I can get specialist ingredients that are otherwise unavailable.

CIP is an INCO term, it means carriage and insurance paid.
    Just Google the company name.

shipping should be CIP (carriage and insurance paid)
I’ve ordered from CP Biotech and found them 100% reliable.

Well since I have the sample I think I will try it. Solubility in alcohol is good so I’ll use 50% of (70% ethanol), and 5% propylene glycol as penetration enhancer. In airless container.

Lemon peel bioferment looks interesting too. I just ordered some of that pine bark extract.

I’ve never had success in making a cosmetically acceptable solution of resveratrol
I was afraid of hearing something like that, and coming from a highly experienced chemist too. Yes, after reading an awful lot of literature over the past few days I have been having serious doubts.

  • No, that’s another oil.

  • A far better course would be to use a water soluble or dispersible refattening agent.

  • 2.5% oil: madness! This is supposed to be a shampoo? Or a conditioner?

Take a look at Schercemol and Hydramol esters.

Add 3% cold process pearl and sell it as the luxury version.

You can buy a domestic RO unit for around $300, you may find it cost effective compared with bottled water. Regarding (2) I’m not in complete agreement because glassware should be disinfected before use, anyway. But if your tap water is highly mineralised?

  • Great, that’s always good to hear! Glad it worked out.

It seems to me that your ratio of primary to secondary surfactant needs adjustment. The SLES content may be too low to properly emulsify the fragrance. If it were my formula I would take out the polysorbate and adjust the SLES and type of fragrance to get a clear result.

The reason, possibly, that you’re not getting much feedback is that hydroquinone is not exactly a ‘nice’ ingredient, certainly not something I want to formulate with. I am designing a lightening cream but I won’t use that substance in it.
