Thank you everyone. Gives me a lot to think about. Now I think I am looking for more of a technical (non-formulating) role in Product Development/Innovation/Product Management, if that even exists.
@Mike_M Thanks, I will reach out to you.

Thank you @Belassi. Great idea, but I am not looking to start my own company.

Forgot to mention that I am making a “natural” eyeliner hence the need for a “natural” film former. Thank you.

I disperse the sodium carbomer in the water. Heat water phase and oil phase separately to 80C. Add oil to water and emulsify. Add dispersion to cool down (for a tinted color).

@Bobzchemist What are the benefits of having free stearic acid? Thickening properties?

@Bobzchemist, what if you are using all treated pigments in the formula?

    Thanks Bob.

I want the fibers to be distributed evenly throughout the mascara without any clumps while retaining the integrity of the fibers (not breaking them). There are conflicting ways I have been told to add the fibers: 1) Add the fibers to the end of the formulation while it is cooling under 45C while mixing. Can make a slurry with other ingredients that are going to be added at that point as to prevent fly-away of the fibers. 2) Put fibers in water phase as the the water phase will be the thinnest phase in the formulation and you will need less agitation (homogenizer) to break up the fibers so they are not clumped.
I am confused as to whether fibers can be homogenized without actually breaking the individual fibers.
end of mascara formula as the
batch is cooling under 45C. It is good to create a slurr
y with the fibers using other
materials that are going to be added at that point i
n the formulation to prevent fly away

I inherited this formula and used the same percentages as was used before. Do you recommend to lower the acrylates copolymer?

I think this happens when the pigments (TiO2 + iron oxides) have not been completely developed/extended, because of poor dispersing, and when the liquid foundation mixes with the oils in your skin it will further develop/extend the color and make your foundation look darker. I have very oily skin and I find that most liquid foundations tend to look darker throughout the day on me. To avoid this, use liquid foundations that have the pigments fully extended. Fully extended dispersions are the trick in my opinion.
