Ti02/Zinc paste

Another question from me. I want to make a water based, stable fluid/paste of Titanium & Zinc Oxide. I seem to have difficulty with both dispersing in water. I have noticed there are advertised amounts of oil miscible & water miscible Ti02, is this actually the case? I have samples of both and they seem to perform exactly the same when mixed into a slurry with water.
I would like to add a film former/fixative to this mix. I’m trying to make a very bright white paste that does not separate. I have tried using some Fillers eg Magnesium, starch etc but this reduces the whitening effect.Thank you

1) Even if you make a paste, you still have to worry about suspending the pigments. The easiest way to do this is to use a combination of thickening agents. You are essentially making a liquid makeup, so look at those types of starting formulas for suspension systems. Veegum plus should work to start with, but there may be more stable combinations.
2) Getting TiO2 and ZnO completely dispersed and de-agglomerated into water takes a lot of energy, no matter what they’re coated with. Your best bet is to use a colloid mill, and gradually close down the gap once you have all the pigments wetted into your hydrated gum mix.3) It would save you a lot of time and energy if you started with pre-made dispersions. -
AH! Bobzchemist…. thank you. I was not really thinking liquid makeup, but now that has given me a clue where to start.
Yes I would love to get pre made dispersions, I will start searching.
