Silica dimethyl silylate
Hi All,
Have you ever used a Silica dimethyl silylate that has a clay consistency? I’m talking about Silica dimethyl silylate (CAS# 68611-44-9). I’ve worked with it before and it’s usually light and likely to be airborne. The batch I received from a supplier in China is much more dense and clay-like. They assure me it’s the correct CAS number. They say the lighter stuff is for industrial while the clay-like stuff is for cosmetics.
Does anyone have experience with this silica?

Not a valid response from that Chinese supplier. This sounds like a scam.

Definitely not the right material. They’ll honor a refund. They are just confused. Have you used this silca @chemicalmatt ? It’s so prone to being airborne that it makes it difficult to mix and keep the lab free of floating particulates. I wear a respirator, but it basically contaminates the whole work area.

I was just working with Covasilic 15 today and I can say that the supplier from China sounds shady. It’s true that this hydrophobic fumed version of silica goes everywhere and might even be dangerous to your lungs, it shouldn’t be that fluffy, good luck.
