Lip Gloss experts
Hi experts!
I’m trying to make a simple crystal clear, extreme gloos/shine lipgloss. Wanting to stay away from the usual Mineral oil based things so have been testing Versagel ME.
I need this gloss to stay put, and stay shiny especially in hot & humid conditions.So far I cant get this Versagel to work at all. Have tried combinations with Castor/MCt/Silicones and different heating methods. All result in separation and/or a lumpy mess. Is there a specific way of heating this material? I’ve emailed Penreco several times to no avail, I guess as I’m in a different country and not a direct customer they cant help.
Can anyone point me towards some clear directions how to work with this material?

It’s in their literature somewhere, but what you need to do with any versagel is to open up/relax the block polymer chain so that other oils incorporate properly. If I remember correctly from the patent and using it several years ago, this involves heating to 230 - 240F or higher, then a slow cooldown while stirring.I found this from a quick search. Some ingredients are just not worth the time and effort to work with … this is a sticky mess. I would spend some time looking for an easier ingredient to formulate with. If I recall properly, you need to heat the Versagel to 85C, by itself, then add it to your other base ingredients, also heated to 85C and then mix.

Thanks Guys. I’m begining to think the Hydrogenated Polyisobutene version of Versagel is going to be more trouble than the claim is worth
The Versagel M is fine to work with but I lose my MO free claim. Have used Polybutene in samples, but to get the result I need ends up with a cloudy sample.
I LOVE the Zeniglos, but it’s price heavy for this product in the quantities that I can buy for short runs. I’ve experimetned with Polyamide in the past, does anyone know a distributor for this now?
