    Hi

We decided to make home made soap with my wife. We plan to sell our soap too.
Either me or my wife is not chemist. We got some formula from internet. Some of them are with Lye, some without.

Are there any alternatives for LYE (sodium hydroxide).

I am asking this one because on my research I see some people say natural soap should be without LYE or LYE is not good etc.. etc..  I know they are not chemists or who didn’t make enough search about this but they are potential buyers  :)

How can I make soap with good foam?
As far as I know soap is Anionic and I found some  Anionic surfactants:

    SCI Granules
    Sodium cocoyl Isethionate

    Oliv Esters
    Olive oil peg-7 esters

    SLSA
    Sodium Lauryl sulfoacetate

Can I use any of them for home made soap or is there anything else you can suggest me to make soap with good foam?

Any comments and suggestions are welcomed
    Thank you,
    Kerem

What makes the soap better?  First we would like to start from Juniper Berry Soap.

    Juniper Berry Soap Recipe
Coconut oil – 20 oz, Shea butter – 6 oz, Olive oil – 15 oz, Castor oil – 8 oz, Avocado oil – 8 oz
    Rice bran oil – 8 oz, Cocoa powder – 1 tablespoon,Lye – 9 oz, Water – 18 oz, Ground Juniper Berries – 2 tablespoons, Vanilla Oleoresin EO – .5 oz, Anise EO – .5 oz, Juniper Berry EO – .5 oz, Almond EO – .2 oz, Ylang Ylang EO – .2 oz,Patchouli EO – .2 oz, Sweet Orange EO – 1 oz

    Goat’s Milk Soap Recipie
Olive Oil = 26.5 Ounces, Palm Kernel Oil = 5.3 Ounces, Rice Bran Oil = 5.3 Ounces, Coconut Oil 5.3 Ounces, Shea Butter 5.3 Ounces, Palm Oil  = 2.65 Ounces, Castor Oil = 2.65 Ounces,Eucalyptus Essential Oil = 28 Grams, Spearmint Essential Oil = (1.834 Ounces), Goat’s Milk = 20 ounces, lye = 7.185 ounces,

But we do not know is it good or it is just up to the personal taste?

Are there any alternatives for LYE (sodium hydroxide).

     - NO. Solid bar soap is made with it. Liquid soap with potassium hydroxide.
Don’t get confused between commercial soap made with synthetics and natural soap made from fatty acids.
I strongly recommend that you join a soap forum like this one. Making soap is not very difficult, it is a bit of an art form. It does require attention to safety. The qualities of natural soap depend on the oils used. A good basic recipe is 33% coconut, 33% palm, 30% high-oleic oil such as olive, 4% castor.
You should make simple types first to get some practice. Your second recipe, for instance, is not for beginners as it would require you to freeze the goat’s milk or a runaway reaction would begin.

As Belassi commented, there are two ways of making soap.  Using lye or using synthetic detergents. The ingredients you mention (SCI, Olive oil peg, SLSA etc) are synthetic detergents.

If you’d like to use the lye method, here’s a tutorial - http://www.makingskincare.com/how-to-make-soap/
