  • Ceteareth-25 Usage Beyond Recommended 3%

It’s my first time working with Ceteareth-25. I’m working to formulate a thick hair firm gel/pomade to use for styling hair. My formulation has the recommended max of 3% but it apparently isn’t enough as the end result is still very fluid, too fluid. This batch is just 64 oz so that I could get a feel for it. How far can you actually go in percentage(s) with Ceteareth-25 and before it will no longer integrate or dissolve in water?

    Water 80%
    C-25 3%
Glycine Betaine (Beta vulgaris(Beet)) Sugar Extract  2.9%

    PEG-40  2.4
    Methyl Gluceth-10  2.3%
    Ethylhexyl Olivate  2.2%
    Citrullus Lanatus Seed Oil 2%
    Hydrolyzed Linseed Seed 1.85%
    Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil 1.5%
    Fragrance 0.75%
    Phenoxyethanol (and) Caprylyl Glycol 1%

Thanks for any advice or help!

Search for hair pomades in previous conversations. I remember several questions about it within last couple of months.

@SPMX you need to reach  25%  of ceteareth 25 or more to have thick pomade .

Thanks Fekhr. I upped it to 21.8%  which worked well but I noticed condensation on the finish product after a few days.

    D Water            61%
    Ceteareth 25.   21.8%
    Vegemoist         2.9%
    PEG 40 Hydro Castor   2.4%
    Methyl Gluceth 10    2.8%
    Ethyhexyl Olivate     2.5%
    Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil  1.5%
    Hydrolyzed Lin Seed Oil. 1.85%
    Fragrance    0.75%
    Phenoxyethanol (and) Caprylyl Glycol 1%

I’m going to decrease the humectants down to  5%, cut the oils, up the C-25 to 25% and the hydro linseed to 0.90%

    Thanks!
