Thank you for your responss,
I understand that you need to boil the distilled water to sterlie it but I don’t understand that you need to keep it in that temperature for 20 minute. I don’t believe there is no point. -
@Bill_Toge I made something similar to that product but it is more translucent that white. That product has a beautiful white glossy silicon like consistency. Can someone like Josh Rosebrook fool their customers, I hope they are doing the right thing for the sake of their customers.
@GARIFUNA Yes, you are right, but behentrimonium methosulphate is made of 2 or 3 ingredients, it is so cheeky.
Thank you for your responds. I really appreciate it.

@ Belassi , thanks, this ingredient is on my list. There is no supplier who carries Polyquart H-81 in Australia at the moment.
-
@ LongXi , I’ve made the emulsion as you suggested, with glycrin, gum, butter & oil and water and there is no separation yet after3 days.
I have another question for you if you don’t mind. What is the preservative in Josh Rosebrook conditioner ingredients list other than potassium sorbate? It must be some of the extract, isn’t it? Thanks -
@LongXi , thank you for your respond.
when you look at his conditioner, it looks definitely like other conditioners on the market that have emulsifiers.
I am going to try what you said and if it works it would be a better option for my super fine hair. Thanks again -

MemberOctober 15, 2020 at 9:23 am in reply to: Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine and Brassicamidopropyl Dimethylamine@ ketchito , that is a good point, so if it goes inside the cuticle because of their small molecules they are not able to provide enough slip/glide as well.
Don’t you think they can help my fine hair look more voluminous because the molecules can go inside the cuticles or they would washed out because of water solubility?@creatorhealer2020 As these 2 ingredients are water soluble, do you think I can have better result if I mix them to the neutralized water rather than adding them to the oil phase of the formula which I always do for Behentrimonium Chloride?
I also searched for LexFeel N and there are quite a few of them, which one do you think is better for my fine hair? Atm I am using Plantsit and Cetiol C5 in my formula.
Thank you all for your help. -
@ Belassi , as you suggested I added 0.2g of Polyquat-10 and it worked very well, thank you.
I tried to incorporate cellulose to my formula too many times and every time it failed and I thought because Polyquat-10 is from cellulose I assumed it won’t work. Thank you I have the outcome I was looking for. -

@ketchito , Thank you for your info.
I have to avoid silicon and also keep the formula clear.
I can not find glyceryl oleate by itself but there is Lamesoft® PO 65 which contains Coco-glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate. Do you think this could work? I experimented on Glyceryl Cocoate but made the formula opaque.
Sodium cocoyl glutamate has been out of stock for quite a while in Australia.
I don’t know what to do. I’ve been experimenting and searching a lot but still not finished it yet,
I tried to add cellulose gum to my formula for a while to thicken the formula and give it some slip but it was a bit hard so looking for something easier. -
@ letsalcido , thank you for your help. I tried different order of adding the surfactants in the formula.
I mixed 0.4g essential oil + 0.4 Vitamin E with 7g of Caprylyl /Capryl Glucoside then added at the end to my formula as you suggested and the shampoo looks more clear. Thank you for that.I added 3.5g PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate (as a thickener) to hot water, then added Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate first and Cocomidopropyl Betaine second and it produced very thick blend but the moment I added the Essential Oil blend the formula thinned out. What the reason can be? Any thought on that please? Thank you for your help , I really appreciate it.
-
@ letsalcido , thank you.
I mixed just 0.4g essential oil with 7g of Caprylyl /Capryl Glucoside which is a solubilizer and still was cloudy. I’ll try your way by adding the essential oil at the end. I’ll update you on that. Thanks -
@letsalcido , Thank you for response, so does the amphoterics surfactants goes in the blend after all other ingredients including water?
I mixed 0.4g essential oil with 7g of Caprylyl /Capryl Glucoside first it was still cloudy and then added the surfactants and then water.
1 more question please,
Is it better to have solubliser or emulsifier to mix the essential oil with?
Thanks -
@ngarayeva001 , Thank you for your respond. That is a good info. I don’t mind to use water soluble Silicons but some people have made a monster out of it and never listen to what you want to say.
Thank you every one for helping me with your valuable knowledge.
-
@Perry , I don’t have any problems with Silicons but I need to make a product that customers like, so I have to look for a second best ingredient if there is any.
- Is there any preference with silicons as a heat protectant?
- Do you think Silicon alternatives would work better than oils or the same? Thanks everyone for your responds. I really appreciate it.

@Abdullah , Thanks, You’ve got a few good points there.
I always mix HEC with glycerin first, then add it to water while mixing but never adjust the PH. I make Aloe gel like that and it thickens, the water PH is 7.
I am going to do a few more batches with what you suggested and also change the arrangement of the surfactants, so my first surfactant would be Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate which I believe it is Anionic and try to see if I can get a bit of thickness there with Cocamidopropyl Betaine and maybe some salt. Thanks again. -
@Abdullah , I just used Hydroxyethyl cellulose. Maybe I need a big stirrer machine to be able to mix it well. I make small batch and mix it by hand. As everyone is saying I need a polymer that is already liquid. Thanks for your input.
-
@letsalcido Thank you for your quick and helpful response. I’ll buy a few of them to see which one works better for me.
And thanks everyone for your wonderful responses. I really appreciate it.
-
@letsalcido Thank you for your help. I have another question, are these thickener except gums easy to incorporate in to the surfactants system or I need a big stirrer machine for them? Thanks
-
Zara said:@letsalcido Thank you for your input. At first I had anionic surfactant in my formula and the consistency of it wasn’t that bad. Now I am trying not to have anionic in the formula and it seems it is harder to thicken it up.
One question please, do you think Sorbitol can help with the thickening? Thanks -
@letsalcido Thanks for the help. Yes , I know volume shampoo is stronger and also it could be a bit higher in PH. I am hoping to find an ingredient that covers the hair strands temporary to look a bit fuller. I can’t use a stronger shampoo because I have psoriasis on my scalp. It can be higher in PH but not stronger.
I make shampoo soap and it feels very good on my scalp and hair and the PH is around 7.7. It has made a big difference on my scalp because of the higher PH and it has 5% supperfat which makes it moisturizing but now I’d like to try the surfactants. -
@letsalcido Thank you for your input. My formula has got 12% cocamidopropyl betaine of the total atm, I even thought this amount would give me a reasonable thickness because I read somewhere about it but it didn’t change the formula at all.

another question, What do you think about Potassium Oleate? It is an emulsifier, it might solve the problem but I am not sure if it is safe for skin. I couldn’t find much info on the internet. Thanks
