It could be anything because everyone’s skin has the potential to react to different chemicals differently.

I’d guess the most likely candidates would be…
    Acai powder
    Phenoxyethanol
    Green tea extract
    Hemp seed oil
    Sweet almond oil
or any of the other natural ingredients

Yeah, you can probably find an actuator that can spray pretty much anything!

No, Hydrogen peroxide does not evaporate as quickly as IPA. It evaporates like water.

We used a texture analyzer to make claims about the quality of our foam (quantify creaminess).  We also used a Diastron/Instron to make claims about hair care products and the ease of combing. We used a Novameter, Corneometer and TEWL meter to make claims about moisturization.

What type of products are you testing and what kind of claims do you want to make?

That sounds about right. You can’t speed up a stability test.  Maybe you could speed things up by working with a Private Label company or Contract Manufacturer that already has a tested formula. But if you’re starting fresh and changing things, 6 months or more sounds about right.

To get good answers you need to provide more details.  What are the specific ingredients that you are using and how much?

Only you can decide whether 0.8% is enough fragrance.

I think you need to find a better fragrance. When I worked on the Tresemme shampoo, we had a nice smelling, strong enough fragrance that worked using 0.5%.  Even dove shampoo probably uses less than 1% fragrance.

    @Pharma - you’re right 8% fragrance!!?  That’s about 7% too much.
Also, polyquats work at level below 1%.
Reducing the fragrance may fix the separation problem. But it’s hard to say because it’s not clear what is separating.  Is the pearl separating or is it a slug of fragrance oil that is separating out?

Yes, raw materials will differ from company to company. They don’t make the ingredients the same way so you might get different compositions.

See this article I wrote on the subject.

    DMDM Hydantoin would work well.
Or a blend of “Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea”

@ngarayeva001 - yes, text is an inefficient way to communicate and tone/meaning can be often missed or misunderstood. I’ve heard the Guardian publishes “rubbish”.

You would get more helpful answers if you listed the ingredients in your formula.

@ngarayeva001 - yes, however that could also be a result of better detection methods and not necessarily an increase in the number of actual cases.

One solution to that in the US is to get a PO box at a place like UPS. That gives you a commercial address. (I’m not sure if you have an equivalent in the UK).

If this sort of thing bothers you, lavender has also been shown to be a hormone disrupter. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmoa064725
So, it’s not without its risks.

Some “preservative free” cosmetics use parabens and formaldehyde donors and then just don’t list it on their labels. This is illegal of course, but that doesn’t stop some people.

Our unequal earth? Then get just some skills, work hard and you’ll be off poverty. A simple and time-proven solution, comrades.

Hard work is overrated as a solution to poverty. Lots of hard working people are dirt poor. More important is being lucky & being born to the right set of parents in the right country. CEOs certainly aren’t the hardest working people at their companies.

“…using permanent hair dye increases a black woman’s risk of breast cancer by 45%, compared to an increased risk of 7% in white women.”

That’s not what the study concluded. It was an observational study, not a causal study.

This is an interesting take on the study…

January 9, 2020 at 5:10 pm in reply to: Oil Fragrance deflates my bubbly formula

The technical explanation involves the micellar surfactant structure, the close packing of particles and the effect these have on the film surface of the bubbles. But the basic conclusion is…

    Oils depress foam
Oils also impact (usually reduce) viscosity

Some oil are worse than others because they impact the particle dynamics differently.

What can you do?  Lots of things you can try but they may or may not work.

    1.  Use less EO.
    2.  Use a solubilizer like Polysorbate 20
    3.  Use different EOs
    4.  Don’t use EOs in your cleansing formulas
    5.  Adjust your surfactant levels (higher)
    6.  Reduce your salt levels (if you have any)
    7.  Use a thickener system that isn’t impacted by the micellar particle packing

Yes, the MCI/MI blend can be enough for preservation. Although many consumers have negative reactions to exposure from it (~5% of population) so a lot of companies avoid it.

    @ajw000 - you don’t emulsify a shampoo. It’s a solution. You’re probably mixing too aggressively.

It also depends on what you are going to do with the ingredients. If you are just looking to make products for yourself at home then you can be a bit looser with your standards. But if you are intent on creating product that you want to sell, working directly with manufacturers or certified distributors is the way to go.
