That all depends on what are the other component ingredients of your formula and what marketing channels you are targeting. You should be prepared to get called out on it. The issue is will that make any difference with your target consumers. Arm & Hammer got into a class-action lawsuit and regulators took action on a deodorant they labeled as “Natural” that contained triclosan and they had to re-label the product. I would caution against being too clever by half using the word Natural.
Agreed.
Another way around for checking on your marketing idea and getting answer to your question, imagining if your deo gets into LabMuffin’s hand some way some how, will she call you out? -

And the same for the Japanese brands we manufacture.Totally agree on this, this maybe one of many reasons why so many weird stuff from China can be found and bought online and offline, well to be fair, weird stuff can be found anywhere around the globe.
PhilGeis said:Wrong. Retailers’ priority lists ARE responsible. In US and EU. Sephora, Target Walmart, etc - all encourage use of garbage preservative systems.I have to agree on this.
As for handcrafts or homemade.
Honestly I don’t see a solution for this issue if it were to be pushed to state-level government, I am quite positive it be would become politicized and somehow make things more complicated. -

@emma1985 - Hi, nice job with the videos, since you are far better formulator than I am, may I comment on the videos for a little?
- You might need a catch phrase.
- The parts when you were adding ingredients, the focus was shifted too much from center to the side or the conner of the video. For top view it might be better if your main beaker’s placed at the center.
- Top view, the auto focus shifted a lot.
- Is there specific reason why you show product application on your wrist with one finger and slow glide motion which’s used in color cosmetic swatch instead of 2 fingers with fast motion on the back of hand. And with straight fingers might look better on screen.
- More fitted gloves maybe.
- There’re some dead air when you were explaining but no visual movement.
Love your makeup, editing, sound, vibe.
It might takes some time to gain fan base, keep up the good work, I’ll be cheering you on.
Sorry for being such a bitch but yes I am that bitch. -

Could you please clarify:
(1) Do you develop your own branded perfumes and cosmetics or are you a retailer of other branded products?
(2) Are you brick/mortar business, online only business or both brick/mortar and online
The appropriate strategy will depend on the type of business you are operating.
I second Mark.
I would say find your own identity first other wise you might just end up being one of Sephora dupe shops.
Products for non-binary, exotic perfumes might attract some interest.
Also brands have promotional budgets, you can contact authorized representatives for promotion pitch. -
Me - nonprofessional.
We’ve been selling Niacinamide products for ages, there’s no significant benefit. It is just recently hyped but if you like it then 5% is ok.
What is the purpose of EL40? I don’t think at 2% can mattify 5% petrolatum.
Petrolatum - not a big fan.
Dimethicone - I love it.
Butter Pearls - I love it.
HEC - not a big fan.
SA can be quite harsh, If it were mine, I would be on the safe side at 0.1 or Lactic acid.
Not sure about 165 as primary and lamellar as secondary, lets wait for more experienced members to comment. -

What is your opinion about 2% alpha arbutin?
Among many, constantly or too much exfoliation may cause skin irritation and lead to hyperpigmentation. 2% alpha arbutin serum works quite well for young people. If the symptom persists longer than 6 months, should see a doctor.

This is just my guess - without seeing the moodboards, I can only make a guess.
Texture - should be quite light or very light.
Scent - should be calming - not too strong - maybe something like rose hydrosol, little smell of rose and evaporates fast enough to convey the absorption of chakra - and a little bit of sweetness for the meaning of love - if their moodboards mainly morning or daytime calming - so maybe little bit of honeysuckle or lily if the valley or chamomile or magnolia - something sweet but not too sweet - if they want night time calming - maybe like little sweetness and little lavender.
Container - glass or frosted glass or those bamboo outer layer type.
Use LOI ingredients INCI begin with letter L O V E in sequence to emphasize the vibe.
After building this spiritual claim then add the usual claim ingredients.
Preservatives - don’t neglect preserving chakra energy as well, something like pink himalayan salt might be a good BS.
Cheers.

evchem2 said:Tangentially, you could also use methyl nicotinate. It is a rubefacient first so expect some reddening of the skin along with slight tingling. Also less is definitely more in this case, it doesn’t take much to produce decent effect.
In the name of marketing god and my curiosity, I sampled methyl nicotinate penis oil from India and methyl nicotinate vaginal gel from China on the back of my hands, my skin went red for hours and uncomfortably tingled.

Very true and some rotate through several different clinics.
@Abdullah - BP, you need drug manufacturing license and BP gel (made in India) is relatively low priced, it would be difficult or impossible to compete with mid-sized or large pharma.

see Aloe
see Chamomilla
2. It would be yes.
see Orange flower/fruit/peel extract
3. And if it is Chinese plant extract, it is possible for 2 different plants to have same CAS number.
You would have to clarify with the manufacturer.

You can start from these free formulas, there’re also manufacturing processes in there.
I’m sorry, this is the extent limit I can help as we might be direct competitor in the near future.

@Stanley - I don’t have definitive answer, humanitarian cargo wouldn’t be subjected to customs like commercial cargo, labeling might not be the greatest concern.

Well I have to say allegedly, this might be done by med student who needed extra credit(s) to applied for dermatology residency.
This study barely helps with diagnosis, only suggests management, mommy bloggers can also write this.
Not saying that he or she is a disgrace derm now, just this study is shitty. -
Are you formulating a natural w/o emulsion?
I’ve seen similar attempts from some DIY(?) sites years ago.I’ve never used Olivem 900.
I played with Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone and Optiphen plus, no issue with viscosity drop instantly.
My non-formulator thoughts.
1. Why was Stearic acid there?
2. Have you checked your lipids polarity? HLB?
3. Dumping 1% Optiphen plus at once might be too much, have you tried adding slowly?
4. I don’t thing olivem 900 as a sole emulsifier would make stable emulsion, you may have to do stay test.
5.
6.
7.some ref. formulation.

It is Australian brand “R…….”, right?
I’m not very familiar with this brand though, but from what I recalled they ran their marketing on Naturopathy(?), so this product likely have no preservative, if it does they would have to declare it in LOI.
@MattTheChemist - if your client insists on no preservative then good luck to you Matt, may mother earth protect your formula.
-
I would say too much gelling agent, 0.2-0.3 of your preferable gum or gums would be enough to give your formula a good body. And maybe check allantoin solubility.

More beneficial in what aspect?
Size doesn’t matter - if it is very convincing in your marketing/story telling and you can make customers satisfied with what you’re offering.
Maybe you could look into Marketing and Consumer Psychology. You may find your answers, why product A is 50 ml and product B is 100 ml.
You Are Not So Smart (2020) by David McRaney is quite a fun book to read.
And many articles online available.
