it’s a great ingredient that is effective for many people. I am probably just allergic. That’s kind of unavoidable. Amongst millions of users there always would be several who are allergic:)

Are you using decyl glucoside as the only surfactant? You need a combination of several surfactants and decyl glucoside isn’t used as a primary surfactant. Also, fragrance can mess up your formula significantly

What was the side effect?
Did you only use in face or larger body part?5% which I bought in a pharmacy over the counter.
My face got swollen to the point where I had to use fingers to open my eyes and when my tongue started swelling I rushed to ER. They gave me steroids but it took 5 days for the swelling to go away.
I didn’t even applied it on whole face. I used it as a spot treatment on 5 spots. The strangest thing is that my skin is an opposite of sensitive. I can use products with pH of 2 without irritation. I can use tretinoin and glycolic acid the same day you name it. It was the first time I had a reaction on something that I applied on my face.

@grapefruit22 I would try it with an idea from @ngarayeva001
I didn’t edit the formula properly so would clarify just in case: it has separate water and oil phases and germaben goes to the cooldown phase. I added SA to oil phase (it can be heated). Try not to replace gelling agent unless you replace it to something electrolytes tolerant. You can replace preservatives and oils. Use pH meter or you risk getting irritation. 2% of SA might bring pH quite low.

MemberMarch 29, 2022 at 7:59 pm in reply to: Can Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate Be Made at Home?@emma1985 I tried all derivatives I could put my hands on and they all were highly disappointing. I even recreated CE Ferulic but my final conclusion is it’s easier to make 20% LAA solution every two (3 if I am lazy) weeks and keep it in the fridge. I don’t use it all the time but I have a subjective perception that it improves my skin colour. This thread reminded me I should make some

This one is ok. Try something like that. Ignore TEA%. The % of neutralizer depends on the desired ph and in this case it was low.
-
On the other hand, if you aren’t going to manufacture and sell it, it doesn’t matter OTC or not. Having said that, you seriously need to rewrite this formula and this is the case where using pH strips isn’t an option at all.

MemberMarch 28, 2022 at 11:42 pm in reply to: Can Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate Be Made at Home? And regarding MAP it isn’t even worth the effort. It oxidises despite all claims, and there’s not enough evidence it does anything beneficial for skin. Why bother?

MemberMarch 28, 2022 at 11:33 pm in reply to: How do you measure the pH of your formulations / products?pH meters are 1) expensive 2) pain in the neck to calibrate 3) pain not only in the neck to clean. Decimal point accuracy isn’t always needed.
I heard this probe is good in terms of cleaning https://www.tester.co.uk/extech-601100-flat-surface-electrode-15-x-106mmit’s just a probe not the whole ph meter

I assume that the term moisturizing cream isn’t ready defined, so they can say it.

but expensive. Plus you would need to purchase several ranges, because the narrower the range the more precise they are. On the bright side, you don’t have to calibrate them

SA is oil soluble and I suggest using this advantage. Add it to your oil phase. I am not saying adding it to water is wrong but it’s more difficult to dissolve. Also, SA is irritating enough. Ditch bakuchiol and other unnecessary things. You are adding unnecessary variables.

MemberMarch 24, 2022 at 9:40 pm in reply to: Volatile emollient substitution for cyclomethiconeI heard that some people don’t like cetiol ultimate. All skins are different of course but it’s absolutely fantastic in foundations (IMHO). Having said that, there are other emollients including octyldodecanol that is used to disperse pigments (Creasperse bb)

Dupont says glycolic has some effect too but I would take it with a shovel of salt as they sell it
