MemberSeptember 24, 2019 at 5:16 am in reply to: Do you think there is a problem with cosmetic research?Be happy, I worked for 25 years in the biotech (mostly) industry so trust me the world can be much more cruel out there… The molecule, great synthesis, amazing activity… hummmmmm well, wait a second, we can save 10 millions people per year… sorry those people can not afford it = cancel the research, move to something more lucrative!

I would go for it.
But, I have seen balances in laboratories that are well over 20 years and get calibrated once / year, and work like a dream… my point is, do not expect a long laboratory life from a cheap balance.
It is like buying an IKA stirrer for 1K or one on ebay for 100$… 1K goes a long way….. 100$, well I tried and I got what I paid for, witch is fine…

Hello, in term of preservative why not using something like Kathon, not the most friendly one but works everytime. as for the pH, would it be possible to use a buffer?
-
Hello, I am not familiar with facial cleanser, but could you add a preservative? Most commercially available bottles are “clean” and if your product as a preservative, problem solved.
Here the only bottle we “wash” are for sterile products. -

MemberApril 16, 2019 at 5:48 am in reply to: Stability Test Questions: do you test for UV exposure?Hello, from my very limited experience:
UV is not required as many cosmetics are sold in none transparent bottles. Now I tested some producs under UV, plain sun…. not always glorious! EDTA, BHA… are often the solution.
Keep in cool…. refers only to the way the customer should ideally store the product. Stabilities are often conducted at 30 and 40 degrees with… I think 65 and 75% humility.
For the PET, we get this done outside at the moment, but looking at the test, you would think that 30 degrees should be an obvious temperature. -

Interesting reading….
@johnb I personally prefer Bagnols en foret, out of topic LOL.to go back on one comment, some of us and I experienced it, are pushing the game of “being unfairly attacked” by sending personal messages!!!! Shamed “he” can not be blocked LOL.
Having said that I like the place… and “sorry” I have a caustic sense of humor…. nothing wrong for a Chemist!
Thanks a LOT Perry

Hello you could try as a first test, indicative only the cheap test. To
support R&D with current and new preservatives. Also, it would be
a cheap alternative when only a quick yes/no answer is required. Some
kits have been purchased from ebotaniq and Merck.
it is NOT to replace a PET. -

It is an expensive exercise, does protect only your formulation/product in the countries listed… and you are giving away your formulation = it can now be copied.

Hello, I used Lemongrass, peppermint, clove, cedarwood…. mostly used for their pleasant smell (sure depending on concentrations), no fragrance require and no colour additive. After one can argue about their specific properties… claims…
-
we don’t, there is enough preservative in the bulk material.
Only for sterile products, we have sanitization steps in place -
Thanks all for the valuable comments

basically, EOs are products made by distillation with either water or steam in general I think. Fragrance is a “nice” word to define artificial, they are man made chemicals. more or less it comes to the $ at the end, EOs can be really expensive.
they are 100’s of fragrances available. I guess it depends in what part of the world you are…. -
I read about many test available, but I am having hard time to find any good study to support the tear free claim.
I did not realize that humans were the new rabbits! LOL -
dear all, expect the claims you can read on labels, as any of you see a proper scientific paper (S) testing surfactants…. to support the tear free claim? Of course not the unfamous Draize test!
-
Hello, out of curiosity I looked at Iselux: if it is “Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate” I do not think that you are achieving your goal of Sulfate free!
I like cocoglucosides, find them smooth in my formulationsGood luck
