Use a presto pot and it will pour from the bottom of the mix (no air bubbles) instead of the top of the pouring pitcher. Maybe visit one of those Facebook groups that cater to pomade brewing. Pomade Entrepreneurs group is a good one - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1305779196188922/

Gary, you need to use emulsifying wax NF. Go very easy on soy lecithin. It is a co emulsifier. Not the main emulsifier.

Odouds was one of the first. I understand they used borax with beeswax which is a natural emulsifier but borax is banned in the EU. I’m puzzled how they sold there.

2 best preservatives for this kind of product is optiphen plus ( can cause curdling) and liquid germall . Best of luck!

I’ve used two different vegetable ewaxes nf and it’s the same. Your question might be better answered at the swiftmonkey blog.

Do NOT keep heat under 50 c. Oils & waxes are to be heat at 80-85C.

again without knowing what ingredients you are using it’s impossible to help determine what is causing the foaming .

Still impossible to give you an answer without more details. I’ve never seen foam when making water based pomade.

@beardofliverpool my mom was born in liverpool, i’m in USA now, but would like to help.  A lot of advice you get here from chemists will suggest ingredients that make you go huh?  I hired a chemist and said I want it clean as possible, and he kept coming at me with pegs, and lye, sodium bicarbonates …..very frustrating.  Like trying to get a doctor to recommend juicing instead of sample pills…

You can play with beeswax and borax.. but will run into EU issues with the borax, it’s very technical.  Avoid Boric Acid…

Get a nice vegetable emulsifying wax and figure out HLB of your oils and you should be good.

    you can add lecithin to.

You don’t need peg-40 HCO.  I played with it all January and you can make the same stuff without it.

Message me if you want to stay in touch.

    Good luck!

Not sure how you are doing your mixing.  glass stir?  Stick mixer?  milk frother?

Would need more info on your process. And temps.

Also I have been  Using peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil and switching it out for hydrogenated castor oil instead.

our product is right on with HLB numbers but coming out mealy. It hardens like oatmeal at 50c and I need to add preservatives under 50c , can I add vitamin e, liquid germall and essential oil at 60 c? Any answers greatly appreciated

We are making the same thing Greg. If you want to trade notes feel free and contact me. I added soy Lecethin. I also think there should be more jojoba than butter in the formulation

I am having a similar problem.

I would like to use a 15% oil phase.

    [HLB in brackets]
Jojoba (Buxus Chinensis) Oil [6.5] , Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii) [8], Castor (Ricinus Communis) Oil [14]

If my emulsifiers are the following HLB:

    PEG-40 Hydrogen Castor Oil (HLB-15)
Emulsifying Wax NF {not sure of HLB]
    Soy lecithin (HLB-4)

What would be the formula percentages for the emulsifiers to emulsify Jojoba, Castor and Shea Butter totalling (15% in formula)?

Peg-40 max is 10%, can I go 15% in formula?
    Emulsifying Wax NF  8% ??
    Soy lecithin 1%

I think my math is way off.

    Trying to fully understand: https://chemistscorner.com/hlb-the-easiest-way-to-create-an-emulsion/

Many humble thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me on this..

Hopefully this also helps sscorpio35 too.. =)
