@Willow Any particular brand for the dairy pasteurizers you recommend?

I haven’t received any updates from the person who presented this situation to me. I assume her staff must have made a mistake that they aren’t admitting. If anything further develops, I’ll make sure to keep you all updated. Thank you for your help!

The stylist lives across the country, but I am curious enough to purchase it myself to test the pH. I was told the hair was straightened like a relaxer or similar straightening treatment and did not recurl when washed in the salon. Client has coily-type curly hair. The roots were still curly but the rest of the hair where this “moisture mask” (not my brand, they were just curious) was applied went straight. I advised them to have the client wash with a clarifying shampoo and then report back. I’m just so curious now!

And yes, they did say it smelled a little bit like sulfur after the 40 minutes when they rinsed it, but not before they rinsed. I couldn’t find a reason for that in the IL, so I agree it could be an undeclared ingredient.

    Thank you both!

I know Quat-15 releases formaldehyde, but I don’t see any other ingredients here that release it that I’m aware of.

This one looks good! Thank you for the suggestion! https://www.soapequipment.com/Tanks/6GallonOilTank.htm And I could use the 3 gallon double boiler for heating the oil phases since they’re smaller.

Sometimes a hand stick blender, sometimes a free standing mixer I purchased on eBay. It was supposed to mix up to 20 liters but that only works for purely aqueous formulas or I have to constantly side sweep.

And thank you to everyone who has helped so far. I run small batches of my products until I can’t keep up anymore, and then they go to a local manufacturer to be made in larger quantities. I don’t want to run a full sized lab, but for the products that don’t have as high of a turn over, manufacturing 2,000 of them doesn’t make any sense. Stepping stones :)

@Dirtnap1 I picked up a 3 gallon stainless steel double boiler from the restaurant supply store to try out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Maybe something like this would be a good step up https://www.katom.com/131-CS113.html There’s actually a restaurant supply store near my warehouse, so I’ll go by and check out what they’ve got.

Thank you! I think I first need to look into options to run boiling water straight from a filter. I’ve used 5-gallon jugs of distilled water until now, then heated them in the beakers on the hot plates. It takes far too long.

Thank you for your reply. I meant the quotes around organic to be sarcastic air-quotes. :D The sector of hair dyes that are ammonia, resorcinol and PPD free are marketed as “organic hair color” that “organic salons” use. Really, I’m simply searching for a manufacturer that develops hair dyes that have very low toxicity or irritation potential.

    Hi Stacy,

The products are for hair care. We will be marketing/selling to salons as a professional line and selling direct via ecommerce on the brand website, kavella.com. We are based out of Los Angeles.

I was at the CosmoProf convention over the weekend and only found one consultant based out of New York.
