So I was using test trips as you stated for rough measurements. I will have to order some camlab and solution. Figured my strips were most likely inaccurate as I never tested against my meter.

They do tend to absorb and have their own dirt like scent, and as Belassi stated, EO’s oxodize over time. Depending on the grade of fragrance oils themselves, this may also be a reason they are smelling like they do.
Vit E may also be lending to this scent as it does have a strong fragrance on its own.

There are a few bloggers/sites that have some great content. One blog now requires a small subscription fee for more indepth resources, but she has a lot of great articles for beginners and advanced formulations etc. https://swiftcraftymonkey.blog/blog/

Obviously, many of the formulas will be geared towards the home hobbiest, but will aquaint you to many of the more technical processes.

A ringing gel/pomade formula with Peg 90M will give the stringy results. The fixatives used will effect the amount of webbing as well.
-
Agreed with Perry. It’s used in such small quantities anyways, might as well just add to the water.
-
Fixative- try C18-38 Alkyl Hydroxystearoyl Stearate or Synthetic Beeswax common name Kester K82P in place of beeswax, or try adding 50/50. Will give better hold than beeswax.
Shine, silicones/esters or quats. -
Exactly the reason I was formulating the texturizing powder for ourselves as there are not many products on the market for thinning hair. Texturizing powders aid in styling thinning hair without the greasy weight of normal products.
-
It’s interesting for sure. I want to make a sample in the future as my curiosity has got the best of me as we are looking to develope a powdered texturizer. This would lend itself into the conditioning category as you stated as well.
-
Whats the purpose of the water in a powdered product? Does this type of product feel moist when applied?
-
If you don’t mind the preservative to be a formaldehyde releaser, DMDM Hydantoin should work in your formulation.
Any way to make the formula anhydrous by chance?

So far the FDA advisory panel has only recommended a drug, and to my knowledge, had not approved it as CBD and cannabis is still schedule 1. Until they reschedule, I doubt any drugs will be approved by the FDA.

I am guessing this will be regulated state by state. What country/State will you be producing for? When you mention cannabis, are you refering to cannabidiol (CBD)?

The rheology of broccoli seed oil isn’t even close to silicones IMO. It has a bit better rheology than most other oils, but wouldn’t consider it an alternative.

It is honey equipment, but works just as well for other applications. Let them know Dirtnap referred you. They should be able to set you up with what you are needing.
You will not find industrial equipment, especially quality equipment, cheaply. Scaling up is costly, so if you are ready to make large batches, then you will need some large equipment.
I use their bottling tanks with anti drip valve, and works perfectly for my application. They also make everything in house themselves.

Polysorbate 60?

Proper mixing and time to settle with reduced speed mixing will eliminate most air bubbles. Moreover, bottom dispensing/filling will help as well… i.e. gravity drain on main vessel to containers being filled.

Triethanolamine (TEA) for adjusting pH
pH of 5-6 is good for hair products to my knowledge. You will need to test the pH of the product to see where it’s falling. -

MemberNovember 14, 2018 at 4:45 pm in reply to: Carbomer Product for a “Cushiony” O/W Body Cream?Doreen- I have a sample of the EZ-4U but I have not played around with it just yet. It is more expensive than the TR-2, so that was also a factor. I do have a product in the works that I may need to try the EZ in!

MemberNovember 13, 2018 at 6:34 pm in reply to: Carbomer Product for a “Cushiony” O/W Body Cream?I ran into the same issue when formulating my latest product. I could not for the life get the product to cooperate and could not replicate the benchmark going by the INCI alone.
Talked to my rep with Lubrizol and she explained some of the differences as mentioned here.
The Pemulan TR-2 acts as an emulsifier and thickener. So my issue was using carbomer alone, and wasn’t emulsifying correctly. So really depends on what you are needing. -
