MemberFebruary 17, 2015 at 8:19 pm in reply to: How to solubilize Emu oil into a clear liquid product? Thanks but I need the SD alcohol to solubilize Menthol and Camphor in the product. Customer is insisting he needs either Emu oil or Cetyl Myristoleate in there too as an anti-inflammatory. And they want it clear.

Guess it depends on your definition of “disperse”. Also possible they are not listing everything and including something like hydrogenated castor oil or other emulsifier

Just today I got a call from a company wanted me to make a supplement product with Chia oil and some other additives. Never heard of it before.

That was fantastic. Congratulations Perry !!! And thanks for sharing.

I checked and we use polysorabte 20 and Octoxynol 10, 2 parts of each to 1 tea tree. Just to be clear on this it is a total of 4 parts to 1 part tea tree.

I have kept 30% solution in our lab for months (5,6,
and no visible growth

Tea Tree is a pain I have found. I think we use 3:1 each of NP 9 and triton X100. I’m not certain. IF you private message me I will give you my email and I can check in the morning

It makes a nice looking cream and gives it a nice feel. Link below. Oh wait, sorry just saw you said gel. I’ll leave you info anyhow in case you or someone else can use for another project.

Just remember that you don’t always want to go with the lowest price. There are other important factors too.

MemberNovember 10, 2014 at 3:43 pm in reply to: When a contract manufacturer ask you for a “price target” per unit, how should you respond? In this industry, especially in the South everyone like to play the penny game. Customers are trying to save 2 cents and manufacturers are trying to make an extra 3 cents. I hate that. Also if I quote a product of a formulation we made for a customer but based on a list of ingredients, I may end up quoting $0.85 a unit and another manufacturer $0.75. Why, because I made you a good formula and the other guy used way less of the “goodies” in the formula. Then without saying anything I lose a job solely based on price. IF a manufacturer knows more or less where you need to be then we can formulate to your financial needs.
Of course if you tell them you want to be under $2 a unit they will quote you $1.75 where as if you said nothing you may get a quote of $0.98. I don’t play those games though and people who do are crooks. We always try to give a fair price for the job being done.

The real question is, if you are providing them with a formula only and they are going to manufacture it why do they need a COA? We are contract manufacturers and when a customer gives us a formula to make we NEVER have requested a COA for the product. If the customer wants one then we provide it to them for a charge.

Someone once told me if you use equal amounts of ALS & ALES irritantcy drops to near nothing.

Can’t take out the fragrance, customer wants it.
No problem for us to work with the SF-1 in the shampoo and that sample is holding up well so far. Even with CETAC.What I should have done initially is given the customer a shampoo with EGDS and EGMS. Never had a problem with that but the quick pearl is so much easier (I thought) and doesn’t need heat.
Thank you all again for your thoughts on this.

I appreciate everyone giving me their opinion. We are trying a few different things in the lab that we will be observing over the next few days/weeks. One as simple as adding carbomer in the form of Aqua SF-1 to the formulation. Another is taking out AOS 40 and using SLES but keeping all else the same as the original. Plus a few others. I’ll report back when I have any news.
Thanks again people, much appreciated.
