Interesting study, but still irrelevant. If you are not using SLES as your main surfactant, you don’t use it at all.
-
I wouldn’t pay much attention to this chart, without knowing what else is in the formula (it says surfactant mix) and how is the irritation test made, the data is irrelevant. A full study or experimentation will give you a better insight.

It’s legal at 0.1% as a preservative, not as an active ingredient.

You don’t need a degree to formulate, but without the basics the job becomes harder. I agree with @Microformulation, and it’s not only the guidance, it’s the reasoning through the scientific method, and that can’t be self taught.

Heat it.

That’s bad. Its time to start making the shampoo yourself.
What about a more traditional approach like zinc oxide?. I know nothing about dog skin, but if its OK for a baby…
A basic pomade with petrolatum, 15 or 20% znO and whatever you have to help regenerating.

See it for yourself, put a piece of cotton and wash it 10 times with surfactants and 5% salt and a second piece with the same amount of surfactants without salt. you won’t even need a microscope to see the difference.

Variation should be expected if you change the speed. I don’t understand the problem.

CAPB and citric acid could act in synergy with the preservatives the rest of the raw materials already have.

You can use polyquats, those are dedigned to be compatible. And hydrophobic dimethicones, the most common are gums dispersed in cyclo, but there are so many to choose. See this, and that’s from one manufacturer.

Strange that just 10% water would do that, but it happens. Sandalwood maybe?.
The most common thing to add is tween 20, a high HLB nonionic surfactant. Of course there are more “natural” alternatives if your customers are picky, like this one.

MemberSeptember 25, 2018 at 3:38 pm in reply to: Should I dilute sulfonic acid before neutralizing it with Sodium hydroxide ?It’s not a good idea to throw in a mixture of acids and let them fight. If you want to add a buffer, make the citrate separately and add it later. The same goes for the rest. Try neutralizing the LABSA fist and then add the rest one by one. If you do have a problem with LABSA+NaOH then you do have a problem with the material like @Chemist77 said.

What he actually wants is to make his own surfactants. Simple answer, don’t. It takes a big budget, proper equipment, experienced chemists and a good method. And of course you would have to source raw materials of high quality, the slightest variation will affect the process.
There are many reasons why it’s a bad idea. Buy what’s already available and properly made and tested.

If some day you decide you want stainless steel have it custom made.

@Fekher you can research shaving creams, mild ones are basically oils and TEA. There’s plenty of experimentation since it’s become a trend, it could save you time, and you can easily find documentation.

48°C is still too hot, this will evaporate the head notes for sure and affect the EO. Add it at the lowest possible. Of course it will depend on the oil and the amount of volatile compounds, you will have to experiment.
