Thanks everyone
aware of pot sorbate and sodium benzoate, pot sorbate is a a irritant and need a low pH to be active so will definitely not use that.
Aware of parabens an love them but not for our natural clients unfortunately. -

maybe you are adding too much? I have used it in oils eg sunflower no problem without heating to 70°C -

Have had many products dermatologically tested and have never had one fail, even ”harsh” products.
Involves RIPT testing usually on 50 subjects and a extra charge for a dermatologist to sign off on the results.agree with you bobzchemist -

Hi tsemhoi
which suppliers are you going to? There are quite a few australian supplier sites that have different preservative systems and you can buy small amounts.. -
ok thanks bobzchemist

As a general rule seeing as you have quite a bit of emulsifier usually about 10% oil will produce a more stable cream. Playing with the ratio can often produce a better emulsion.

Hi Bobzchemist and the microbiologist
thanks for that, we use Leuicidal in other oganic products but its not allowed in OFC because its fermented. Not much info out there on what can and cant be used, pity!Ok thanks for that. a new natural preservative that is effective and safe with no irritation would be great!! -
Hi Bobzchemist
ok thanks for that hehe thanks for the tip on the blender!
Just have the one client for this so havent thought of getting in different grades of the Aerosil as its only a small client. Will keep it in mind though if we have other clients after a similar product… -
Hi Bobzchemist,
thanks for that, the most helpful answer as yes it does separate over time. I think will be able to control the homogenising in manufacturing a bit more, dont have any mills though. Have a blender in the lab i can try as well.Actually might be able to add a different surfactant to assist with the viscosity. Thanks for that! -
Hello bobzchemist will try better dispersion just hand mixing in the lab so a bigger batch may work better.
Crisbaysauli have used the dr straetmans before but too expensive unfortunately! -

strangely it has been solved by removing the alcohol and having only water and the low level of gums. Not sure how that works but viscosity seems to be the same must have been some interaction going on… -
Hello
other that what is stated above with possible causes another one might be the Retinyl Palmitate causing the colour change with heat? -
Hello ok its Aerosil 200 will have to check if its hydrophobic or hydrophilic…

Hi Urbanjunglebaby,
from my experience most preservatives say that on the MSDS just incase someone has a reaction to it. It does have Potassium Sorbate in it which i have known some people to react on the face only but that is with a higher concentration, using it straight not in a mix. Thanks microformulation for the manufacturer. UrbanJB it would be a question to ask the supplier as they have emulsions listed as well…But Bobzchemist has the best idea for you most likely -

Thankyou for that, it is a exfoliator used for the face so it is fairly gentle. I like the idea of the mica I will have a look around for that and see if its suitable. -
http://www.makingcosmetics.com/Preservatives/Caprylic-Acid-Combo-p2147.html
The link above is a natural based preservative using Propanediol instead of Propylene Glycol (natural replacement). They sell a 60ml size so might be suitable if you are only making small scale product, Its a US based site. -
Hi great thanks for that I will definitely look into the Polyglyceryl-5-oleate and Ajinomoto.
Bobzchemist more for label appearance really! -
Hi Everyone ok thanks
Yes we have our PIP documents up to date with the EU which require a lot, thought the FDA might be a bit stricter and was assuming they had more stringent regs.Ok thanks for that!
