    Hi everyone

I am having a problem with a BB cream that is continuously turning a dark orange type colour in the 45 degree oven.
The product is SPF 15 and contains avo benzone. It has 3 colour pigments in it, 2 of which are not straight iron oxides, but contain bismuth oxychloride as well. I have been receiving mixed advice on how to solve the problem, with one source saying it is definitely the BiOCl that is the issue and this must be replaced with straight iron oxides, the pigment supplier is saying it is the avo benzone which is changing colour.

Does anyone have any light to shed on the situation? The formulation also contains niacinamide.

    Thanks!!

Avobenzone has an affection for minerals and that gives you the colored complexes, by looking at your description of the formula it is very easy to comprehend that the pigments (straight or not) are forming complexes with Avobenzone. Either you would have to use coated ones which might reduce the effect or eliminate it or with the current recipe try using a little of a chelate.
Hope my suggestions can be bettered by someone more knowledgeable.

To answer a question like this you should provide the complete ingredient list.  There may be something in the formula that you don’t realize is causing a problem but we might.
