This thread is working against its purpose and if anything is deterring people from donating.

Perry said:@Microformulation - Nice. I also volunteer at a Cat shelter. That’s mostly because I like animals but my wife is allergic to cats & dogs.
I have an essential oil that can help with that…… :#

Thank you @Belassi . I had a feeling this ingredient would peak your interest. So that means that they don’t have a preservative, which is weird to me.

I stand corrected. One of my sources was this which states:“Second, all levels of asbestos exposure studied to date have demonstrated asbestos-related disease, and a linear relationship appears to best describe the shape of the dose-response curve. These considerations led the committee to conclude that there is no level of exposure below which clinical effects do not occur. Third, the absence of a threshold is further indicated by the dramatic evidence of asbestos-related disease in members of asbestos-worker households and in persons living near asbestos-contaminated areas. These household and community contacts involved low level and/or intermittent casual exposure to asbestos. Studies of duration of exposure suggest that even at very short exposure periods (1 day to 3 months) significant disease can occur. “.

@Perry All companies lie, it’s just a matter of how big the lie is and this one is huge in my opinion. And I am not making the case that talc causes cancer. What I am saying however is that J&J stated publicly that their tested samples didn’t contain any asbestos, while knowing that this was false. And we know that there is no safe level of exposure to asbestos, even the smallest amounts have been shown to cause issues. So while talc doesn’t cause cancer, talc contaminated with asbestos might.
The most interesting part, which we probably will never know, is whether or not this contaminated talc actually was made available for purchase. Even if their products at the moment are not contaminated, that doesn’t mean that they weren’t at some point.

A massive company caught lying, can’t say I’m surprised.

Contact them and tell them you’ve never hear of an ingredient called FIL. Maybe they’ll tell you exactly what it is. I’m intrigued by this.

MemberDecember 5, 2018 at 12:27 am in reply to: Arrowroot powder and cream/lotion formulationGreasiness can occur from a variety of factors such as the specific oils you use and the combination of emulsifiers. How large is your oil phase? My first suggestion would be to decrease it and see if that helps. If it doesn’t then perhaps the problem is the emulsifying ingredients. However if the problem is indeed the oil phase then I would suggest replacing some of it with esters. There are natural esters available if that’s what you need.In my experience neither cetyl alcohol or xanthan gum contribute to a greasy feeling unless you’re using a lot. And cetyl alcohol may take between 1 and 2 days to achieve final viscosity. -

I’ve seen Isoamyl laurate and LexFeel® Natural (Heptyl Undecylenate) touted as “natural” alternatives to silicone, haven’t tried em myself though.

@ngarayeva001 sorry to ambush this thread but is there a recommended % of antioxdants to include? I’ve been reading about tocopherols and I see the them included from as low as 0,5 % to as high as 2 % to prevent oils from oxidating.
-
@ngarayeva001 Because it implies safety.@Perry Regardless, there’s still a market for it and a niche brand could do well in this segment.

first result from google

Doesn’t it also depend on the emulsifier? Like with certain emulsifiers the viscosity will increase as you add more oil.

@MarkBroussard Thank you Mark. I’ve been very interested in this material but have been hesitant because of fear of reduced rinse-off capabilities.

I don’t think any ingredients are categorized as miscellaneous additives. And if they were I assume ingredients like fragrance, colorants, claims ingredient or fairy dust (as Perry calls it) would fit this category. But even then their functions and uses would differ.

3 people posting the exact same link…I’d say there’s something fishy about this company.

MemberSeptember 27, 2018 at 1:19 pm in reply to: What factors improve the lotion/cream stability?I can promise you that no formulator is doing calculations with Stoke Law while formulating. Is it even worth knowing to become a cosmetic chemist? Probably not. The textbooks on cosmetic chemistry are good but some throw a lot of equations at you that are relevant but not in a practical setting. And I find Perry’s answers satisfactory.
